Straipsnyje pristatomas anglų kalbos episteminės frazės I think ir su ja susijusių modelių I suspect, I suppose, I guess, I believe ypatumų ir vertimo į lietuvių kalbą atitikmenų tyrimas. Darbu siekiama išsiaiškinti, ar episteminė frazė I think, sudaryta iš mentalinio veiksmažodžio tiesioginės nuosakos vienaskaitos formos ir asmeninio įvardžio, ir su ja susijusios frazės I suspect, I suppose, I guess, I believe gali būti traktuotinos kaip kultūriniai konceptai, atspindintys tik anglosaksiškajai kultūrai būdingą specifiką. Remiantis A. Wierzbickos sukurtomis natūraliosios semantinės metakalbos teorija (NSM) ir kultūrinių scenarijų teorija buvo nagrinėjamos anglų kalbos episteminių frazių reikšmės originalo tekste ir jų pokytis vertimo tekste. Duomenys tyrimui surinkti iš dviejų lygiagrečiųjų anglų – lietuvių kalbų tekstynų: Vytauto Didžiojo universiteto Kompiuterinės lingvistikos centro lygiagrečiojo anglų – lietuvių kalbų tekstyno ir Opus Parallel Corpus lygiagrečiojo anglų – lietuvių kalbų tekstyno. Buvo pastebėta, kad ypač dažnai anglų kalboje vartojama episteminė frazė I think ir su ja susijusios gausios ir įvairios episteminės frazės į lietuvių kalbą dažniausiai verčiamos esamojo laiko tiesioginės nuosakos pirmojo asmens mentaliniu veiksmažodžiu manau.
