L’articulation entre la liberté de religion et la liberté d’expression est un enjeu actuel des discussions entre les représentants des États membres de l’Organisation des nations unies. La notion de « diffamation des religions », fruit de débats onusiens, ambitionne de placer certaines limites à la liberté d’expression afin de favoriser la protection des sentiments religieux. Cet article analyse la formation de la première résolution onusienne sur la « diffamation des religions » en 1999 au sein de la Commission des droits de l’homme et met en lumière les dynamiques divergentes actuelles relatives à la reconnaissance globale des droits de l’homme.
