The healthcare environment aims at improving and quality in health management, with trends and practices in hospitals, institutions, clinics, laboratories and companies in this segment, with the purpose of bringing more comfort and better conditions in the care of patients. Faced with the difficulties of this area, it becomes increasingly important to reduce waste and improve processes. The goal of this paper is to carry out a systematic review of literature on the topic lean manufacturing in healthcare. The data were obtained from four online databases Web of Science, Science Direct, Emerald Insight and Scopus. Articles indexed in the last 10 years were selected (2006-2016). To select articles, an advanced search was performed using the Boolean expression "E" that combined keywords for better specific results. Professionals working in the health segment will have the concepts and applied techniques, in addition to the work indexed in recent years, which will facilitate the research and development of the work, translating into increased efficiency and ultimately, improvement for the population. Despite the importance of the theme, there are few lean manufacturing jobs applied in the healthcare environment. This research can stimulate future studies due to its applicability for the improvement of health services.
ABSTRACTIn Brazil all citizens have free access to public health. Currently the number of people using public health services presented an extraordinary growth due to Brazilian economic crisis, which resulted from the incapacity to maintain private health insurance. Considering Rio de Janeiro, there is a constant concern regarding the quality of the services offered to the population. In this way, a case study was elaborated in a federal hospital, located at Rio de Janeiro, with the purpose to present the problems faced by the hospital concerning the traceability and management of warehouse materials. Any economy resulting from the improvements of warehouse management should provide a gain to the services offered to the population. In this sense, the objective of this study is to propose improvements to the process of material traceability inside the public hospital warehouse through the study of the purchase and storage processes. As a result, a proposal has been drawn up to be implemented by the hospital, containing adjustments in their routines, to mitigate problems faced by them that impacts the reduction of costs and improvement of the services.
This paper aims to present the problems faced by companies in relation to Product Variety Management (PVM), make the management of the company's product variety studied less complex and more dynamic, balancing the marketing team's objectives with the constraints of the industry, proposing suggestions to assist in decision making and presenting metrics for PVM evaluation. The variety of products is a current theme and present in the day to day business. With the proliferation of diversified and customized products to meet the demands of different market segments, companies face difficulties to manage the increasing in their portfolio, where excessive quantity of products can cause confusion in customers and difficulties in the operation. On the other hand, the scarcity of diversified products can mean loss of market share and competitiveness. The study is developed from the observation of the production of a cosmetics company located at Pavuna, state of Rio de Janeiro. Based on the knowledge of each department dynamics and variables involved with the offered product mix, this study indicates ways to minimize the difficulties arising from PVM, presenting management tools to streamline and improve product-related decision making. To better understand the impacts and consequences of the PVM in the cosmetics industry three strands were considered: management of incoming items, management of cruise items and management of items to be discontinued. The study supports the creation and analysis of key indicators, capable of assisting decision making and reducing the risks of an inadequate portfolio.

Background: Several studies have been carried out with the objective of identifying health costs and developing methods to improve this research, thus contributing to better decision making based on more reliable evidence. However, there are some gaps to be filled to provide such information. This research aims to fill one of these gaps, proposing a cost calculation model for surgical hospitalizations based on real patient flow to determine hospital institutions' costs. Methods: An empirical-theoretical study was developed. The empirical approach adopted the three-step modeling process to propose a cost model based on patient flow, considering CHEERS guidelines. For the theoretical approach, a systematic literature review using PRISMA recommendation was applied. Results: The modeling process made it possible to identify the real flow of the surgical patient. This step made it possible to identify cost sources and comprehend that costs incurred by patient occur from admission (preoperative stage) to discharge (postoperative stage). The literature review showed that most studies only address the surgical stage, neglecting the costs of the two stages mentioned. The cost model was developed with a top-down approach allowing a balance between the accuracy of the information and the feasibility of the cost estimate. The proposed model fills two gaps in the literature, the standardization of a cost model and the ability to assess a vast number of different surgery costs in the same hospital. Conclusions: Flexibility stands out as an important advantage of the proposed model, as its application is possible to encompass elective and urgent surgeries of medium and high complexity performed in public and private hospitals. As a limitation, the hospital should have a HIS and cost system implemented. The proposed cost model can provide important information that can induce better decision making. This becomes more relevant in the health sector, especially public health, which faces the lack of resources and whose positive effects can improve health care.
