Foi realizado um estudo da vegetação de um fragmento de Floresta Estacional Decidual, na localidade de São Roque, município de Jaguari, RS, Brasil, com objetivo de caracterizar a diversidade florística, bem como as espécies mais importantes na composição do fragmento. Para a avaliação e identificação das espécies arbóreas com Circunferência à Altura do Peito (CAP) = 30cm, foram demarcadas de maneira sistemática, 14 unidades amostrais de 10x100 m (1000 m²). Nestas, foram avaliadas a espécie vegetal, CAP, altura total, altura comercial, posição sociológica e classe de copa. Observou-se a ocorrência de 54 espécies arbóreas e 28 famílias. O Índice de Diversidade de Shannon foi de 3,63, indicando elevada diversidade de espécies no fragmento. As famílias Sapindaceae, Myrtaceae e Meliaceae foram, em número de espécies, as mais representativas do fragmento, sendo que as espécies com maior valor de importância foram Cupania vernalis, Patagonula americana e Cabralea canjerana. No estrato superior, as espécies dominantes foram Patagonula americana, Cabralea canjerana e Luehea divaricata.
O presente trabalho objetivou identificar e caracterizar os danos ocasionados a sementes de Cassia fistula L. (Fabaceae) (chuva-de-ouro) por um inseto granívoro. Com este intuito, de setembro a outubro de 2010 foram coletadas 100 vagens, diretamente de 10 árvores utilizadas na arborização urbana de Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Posteriormente, as vagens foram encaminhadas ao laboratório e depositadas em cubas de vidro cobertas por uma tela. Após o surgimento dos adultos, foi quantificado o total de sementes sadias, chochas e predadas contido nas vagens. O conteúdo das sementes, que foi consumido pelo inseto, foi obtido pela diferença de peso entre sementes sadias predadas, pesadas em cinco lotes contendo 100 sementes cada. As médias dos lotes de sementes sadias e predadas foram comparadas através do teste de Tukey, em nível de 5% de probabilidade. A partir dos dados levantados, constatou-se que Pygiopachymerus lineola (Chevrolat, 1871) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae) foi responsável pelo ataque de 53,7 % de um total de 3.991 sementes avaliadas, com um consumo médio significativo de 64,6% do peso destas sementes. Desta forma, o referido ataque compromete a germinação das sementes de forma irreversível, afetando a produção de mudas.
Este estudo objetivou conhecer a composição florística e a estrutura fitossociológica de um fragmento da Floresta Natural de Astronium balansae Engl., no município de Bossoroca, RS, Brasil. Foram demarcadas 7 unidades amostrais de 10x100m (1000m2) onde observou-se a ocorrência de 476 indivíduos com Circunferência à Altura do Peito (CAP) = 30cm, distribuídos em 35 espécies e 25 famílias. As espécies mais características e importantes da floresta foram Astronium balansae, Myrcianthes pungens, Patagonula americana, Eugenia uniflora e Parapiptadenia rigida. As famílias Myrtaceae, Meliaceae e Euphorbiaceae foram as mais representativas do fragmento florestal estudado. O valor do Índice de diversidade de Shannon foi 3.
