The goal of this research was to create a surface topography that would promote cell attachment onto Ultrafine-grained Grade 2 Titanium. Morphologies that assist the deposition of bone tissue and reduce colonisation by unwelcome bacteria onto dental implant surfaces are created most often by sand-blasting, chemical etching, or these two in combination. Discs of thickness 2 mm from the machined base material were prepared for this study. After machining, the samples were chemically etched. Three etchants were used: 30 % HCl and 85% H3PO4, and the two in combination. The etching temperatures were 20 °C, 40 °C, and 60 °C, the etching times were 5 minutes and 120 minutes. The surface morphologies of the discs were examined by confocal microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM), and compared to the machined-only samples as reference values. Samples treated in the 30% HCl solution at 40 °C for 120 minutes and then in the 85 % H3PO4 solution at the same temperature and time altered macro and micromorphology together in ways which assist the attaching of bone.
AbsztraktA periprotetikus csontpótló anyagokat gyakran teherviselő felületeken is alkalmazzuk, például csípő-vagy térdízület esetén, ezért fontos szempont, hogy azok megfelelő mechanikai tulajdonságokkal rendelkezzenek. A biokompatibilis anyagok mechanikai vizsgálatában a Vickers-féle mikrokeménység-mérés széles körben elterjedt módszer, amely a csontpótló anyagok tanulmá-nyozásában is hasznos eredményekkel szolgálhat. A -TCP kiugróan magas mikrokeménység-értéke a csontpótlók anyagszerkezetében lévő különbségekkel magyarázható. A természetes eredetű csontpótlók kompozit anyagoknak tekinthetők, amelyekben elasztikus fehérje-fi lamentumok alkotta vázszerkezetre szervetlen kalciumés magnéziumsók rakódnak le a csontképződés folyamata során. It is important these materials have appropriate mechanical properties. Among mechanical tests, the Vickers microhardness measurement gives useful insights into bone-substitute materials. In these experiments microhardness was CSONTPÓTLÓ ANYAGOK ÖSSZEHASONLÍTÓ MIKROKEMÉNYSÉG-VIZSGÁLATA
We studied treatments to the surface of titanium implant materials, specifically 2 mm thick Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium discs. The discs were subjected to two consecutive surface treatment procedures, chemical etching and electropolishing. For chemical etching we investigated changes in reaction time on the surface, while in electropolishing we looked at the electric-current density and the reaction time. As a result of our research we determined the optimal parameters for surface treatment by chemical etching, taking into account both the amounts of material lost and its surface grain. After completion of surface treatment, we examined the titanium discs with both optical microscopy (stereo and metal-microscope) and electron microscopy. We established that with an etching solution containing 9 V/V % hydrogen-fluoride, 12 V/V % nitric acid and distilled water at 30°C, a chemical etching time of 30 seconds is optimal. The optimal electropolishing parameter combination we found to be 180 seconds polishing time, minus 30°C temperature, and a voltage of 20 volts.
During our work we compared two examination methods used for investigating the metallic surface area (MSA) of coronary stents. Each measurement process was tried on different type of stents. Both methods aimed at converting the cylindrical stent into a flattened two-dimensional image. The first method was manually performed using a stereomicroscope. The second method, which has recently been developed, is an automatized method using an integrated scanner and rotating engine. We also determined the largest and the smallest cell sizes from these flattened stent pattern. Our findings showed the largest difference between the two methods was the speed and the accuracy.
