ABSTRAKPemanasan global yang terjadi beberapa tahun terakhir telah menyebabkan terjadinya cuaca ekstrim dan peningkatan suhu bumi yang juga menyebabkan kekeringan. Dalam upaya mengantisipasi pemanasan global diperlukan adanya lingkungan yang dapat menyerap emisi karbon, salah satunya adalah hutan. Salah satu upaya untuk mempertahankan keberadaan hutan, perlu dilakukan identifikasi spesies yang adaptif terhadap kondisi kekeringan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan tanaman dan anatomi akar Acacia auriculiformis Cunn., Tectona grandis L., Alstonia spectabilis Br. dan Cedrela odorata L. serta membandingkan spesies yang lebih adaptif terhadap kondisi kekeringan. Penelitian pada uji terkontrol ini, menggunakan perlakuan kekeringan selama 10, 20, 30 dan 40 hari serta tanaman kontrol yang disiram setiap 2 hari sekali. Masing-masing perlakuan dilakukan dengan 3 ulangan. Pertumbuhan tanaman yang diamati adalah tinggi, diameter, jumlah dan luas daun tanaman, kadar prolin akar serta aspek anatomis berupa diameter trakea. Pengamatan dan pengambilan sample dilakukan setiap 10 hari sekali. Data pertumbuhan dan prolin yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan uji T dan data anatomi dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dilanjutkan uji Duncan dengan taraf signifikansi 95%. Kekeringan pada A. auriculiformis Cunn., T. grandis L., A. spectabilis Br. dan C. odorata L. mempengaruhi pertumbuhan tanaman berupa penurunan tinggi, diameter dan jumlah daun, namun terjadi peningkatan kadar prolin akar dan pertambahan diameter trakea akar. Hasil studi ini mengindikasikan bahwa spesies yang paling toleran dan kemungkinan adaptif terhadap kekeringan adalah spesies yang mempunyai lebih banyak variasi mekanisme respon terutama yang kemunculannya baru terlihat pada tekanan kekeringan yang tinggi.Kata kunci: Kekeringan, jenis pohon, pertumbuhan, prolin, anatomi ABSTRACT Global warming causes extreme weather and temperature leading to drought.
