Angka Kematian Ibu (AKI) dan Angka Kematian Bayi (AKB) merupakan salah satu indikator untuk melihat keberhasilan upaya kesehatan ibu dan anak. AKI dan AKB yang masih tinggi di Indonesia masih menjadi perhatian utama dalam pembangunan bangsa karena AKI merupakan indikator kesejahteraan sebuah bangsa dalam penurunan AKI dan AKB, peran bidan sangat penting karena bidan sebagai pemberi pelayanan kepada ibu dan anak yang tersebar dari tingkat pedesaan sampai perkotaan. Upaya pencegahan untuk mengurangi angka kesakitan dan angka kematian bayi salah satunya dengan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Organisasi kesehatan dunia WHO dan UNICEF telah merekomendasikan beberapa hal untuk peningkatan cakupan ASI eksklusif, yaitu memberikan kesempatan untuk inisiasi menyusu dini pada satu jam setelah kelahiran, menyusui secara eksklusif sejak lahir sampai usia 6 bulan, memberikan makanan pendamping ASI yang bergizi sejak bayi berusia 6 bulan, dan melanjutkan menyusui sampai anak berusia 2 tahun atau lebih. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan cara memberikan pendidikan kesehatan, demontrasi dan praktek secara langsung. Dari hasil pendidikan kesehatan yang dilakukan terjadi perubahan pengetahuan dari 54% menjadi 85%, dan Setelah dilakukan demonstrasi tentang cara menyusui yang benar dan cara perawatan payudara, ibu dapat melakukan sendiri praktek menyusui yang benar dan cara perawatan payudara secara mandiri. Pemberian informasi dan edukasi ASI eksklusif kepada ibu dan atau keluarga sejak kehamilan, sebagai persiapan langkah dalam pemberian ASI eksklusif. Salah satu upaya yang dilakukan adalah dengan mendekatkan pelayanan kesehatan kepada masyarakat melalui program kelas ibu hamil.
