SUMMARY
A résumé is given of the current medical treatment of epilepsy, along with a table of dosages and side‐effects of the various drugs. The maintenance of general physical and mental health, as stressed by Lennox, is as important as the administration of drugs.
About 80 per cent of patients with seizures can be adequately treated if:
(1) the type of seizure is definitely established, and
(2) the right drug or combination of drugs is chosen.
For treatment purposes epilepsy falls into two categories:
(1) petit mal, and (2) grand mal, focal and psychomotor seizures. In petit mal succinimides. oxazolidines and barbiturates are used, and in the second category hydantoins, barbiturates, pyrimidines and succinimides. Toxic effects of drugs should be avoided. Causes of failure of treatment can often be predicted by careful patient follow‐up.
En vue du traitement, on peut ranger l'épilepsie en deux catégories: (1) le petit mal;
