Purpose The concept of green supply chain management (GSCM) is gaining popularity in developing countries due to the environmental and economic impact along with increasing awareness of environmental safety. Enterprises are trying to express their sincere commitment toward green practices. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of GSCM on green and economic performance of the firm under the influence of leadership and institutional pressures. Design/methodology/approach Conceptual model was developed from previous research works to understand the driving forces of green and economic performance which had inconsistent findings in the literature. Data were collected from 174 leading ISO 14001 certified manufacturing firms in Pakistan by using a structured questionnaire. Partial least squares-structural equation modeling is used for testing the hypotheses. Findings The statistical results indicate that the leadership and institutional pressures influence the firm for adoption of internal green practices and external green collaboration. The statistical results also suggest that green practices significantly improve firm’s green and economic performance. However, firm’s external green collaboration does not significantly affect green performance, but it improves green performance significantly. Research limitations/implications This research is conducted on Pakistan as a case of highly populated developing country. Originality/value This research presents the empirical evaluation of the influence of leadership and institutional pressure on green practices and improved green and economic performance. The results offer useful understanding for SCM practitioners seeking to adopt GSCM practices. The results also provide policy insights for regulators, organizations and legislators to further promote GSCM.
In the era of industrialization, environmentalists are more concerned with the environment and so are continuously interested in investigating organizational factors that can facilitate the transition towards sustainability. This research systematically investigates the impact of supply chain partner's collaborative approach towards green practices on a firm's sustainability performance. Stakeholder and coordination theories are used to underpin the study. A structural equation modeling technique is adopted to analyze data collected from 126 green supply chain professionals working at various manufacturing firms operating in Pakistan using a survey questionnaire. The results indicate significant and positive impacts of institution pressure and customer monitoring on the adoption of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices by organizations. This study also explains that organizational GSCM practices, external GSCM practices and performance measures have positive and significant relationships. These findings reveal that it is important for managers to address external GSCM pressures by adopting green practices and being a focal firm should undertake GSCM initiatives in collaboration with their suppliers and customers to achieve a holistic impact which ultimately leads to betterment in overall sustainability performance.
The purpose of this study is to find out the impact of five types of service convenience namely decision, access, transaction, benefit and postbenefit on customer satisfaction in home delivery service of online retailing. Service convenience model is applied to identify the consumer's experience regarding different conveniences encountered at different stages of home delivery. For that purpose, the data was collected from 230 consumers who had experienced the home delivery service during online shopping. After applying EFA, regression analysis has been performed as a statistical technique to test the hypotheses. The result of the study shows that all the independent variables are having a positive and significant impact on customer satisfaction except the one which is access convenience. This shows that accessibility to service provider does not affect customer satisfaction as they are considering online shopping as an efficient virtual store, where they can complete the purchasing process by themselves. It is recommended that online retailers should have to focus in providing convenience services in order to increase customer satisfaction.
Purpose Environmental concerns are rapidly increasing in the industries across the world. They are a more serious issue, especially, in the developing countries due to the prevalence of old practices and outdated technology. The purpose of this paper is to understand the role of institutional pressure and environmental orientation of the firm in adopting green supply chain management (GSCM) practices, and thereon the effect of GSCM on the firm’s performance. Design/methodology/approach By employing survey methodology using purposive sampling technique, the data were collected from 229 respondents who were working as supply chain management professionals in various manufacturing firms. The hypotheses were tested through partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings The findings reveal that both institutional pressures and environmental orientation significantly impact GSCM practices. The result further shows that GSCM practices have a positive effect on the environmental and economic performance as well as customer effectiveness. Originality/value Industries in the developing economies like Pakistan are reluctant to implement GSCM practices due to the perception of ambiguous financial implications. This study signifies that institutional pressures act as an effective driving force for change management and compliance.
Purpose With the challenge of ecological business sustainability, concepts like green design, eco-friendly products, sustainable technologies and efficient processes have compelled the organizations to adopt change. The purpose of this paper is to focus on understanding the impact of green supply chain (GSC) management practices and institutional pressures on economic and environmental performances of organizations in an unstable developing economy. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from the supply chain specialists working in manufacturing firms through a questionnaire. Valid data of 101 respondents were used for analyzing the relationship among the constructs with the help of structural equation modeling. Findings The result of this study reveals that internal GSC practices and institutional pressure have a negative insignificant impact on economic performance, whereas all the constructs are the significant contributors toward improving environmental performance. Practical implications This study will help the supply chain decision makers to make a strategy that is beneficial for improving both economic and environmental dimensions of the performance of a firm. Originality/value An environmental management study under a rapidly changing scenario is always helpful to understand the behavior and its impact. This study is very useful and need of a time in the context of any developing country facing an economic and environmental crisis.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to empirically analyze the factors affecting Muslim consumers’ willingness to pay (WTP) for Halal food, products and operations by employing theory of reasoned action. Design/methodology/approach This study has used quantitative research methodology and collected data from 350 questionnaires from a densely populated city of Pakistan. Partial least squares-structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Findings The results show that the concerns about Halal, religiosity, perception of usefulness of Halal and product ingredients have a significant impact on WTP for Halal foods, while attitude has an insignificant impact on WTP. Moreover, the extent of demand for Halal certification is significantly affected by WTP. Originality/value The study highlighted the concerns of the Muslim consumers with respect to Halalness of the products and operations despite living in a Muslim country. It is recommended that the policy makers, food authorities and health institutions should conduct regular inspections of foods, products and producers’/manufacturers’ operations to ensure that all the procedures from manufacturing of the raw material till the finished goods follow Islamic principles to make them completely Halal.
