The use of macro elements which replace the multiconductor winding in the time-stepping finite element analysis of electrical machines is presented in the paper. The effect of eddycurrents in the windings is considered by a traditional finite element formulation combined with the so called elimination of inner nodes to achieve fast solution. The elimination method is incorporated into time stepping analysis in such a way that the creation of the numerical macro element is performed only once in a whole time stepping analysis.Index Terms-Eddy currents, finite element methods, machine windings, macro elements, skin effect.
The paper suggests a macro element approach for considering electromagnetic field computation problems in multi-physics and system analysis. The method is derived from the standard sub-structuring approach, through the elimination of inner variables philosophy and concludes in the description of the Macro Element model. The proposed technique is an alternative for strong-indirect coupling to model the interaction between sub-domains accurately and computationally efficiently.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
