L’article s’appuie sur une expérience menée dans deux Unités pédagogiques pour élèves allophones arrivants (UPE2A) de collèges à Toulouse, avec des adolescents nouvèlement arrivés en France. Un album sans texte racontant en images une migration a été utilisé en atelier, afin de travailler la langue de scolarisation à l’oral puis à l’écrit, en entremêlant le texte à coconstruire sur les images de l’album et des écrits autobiographiques personnels suscités en miroir de l’histoire du protagoniste et en résonance avec elle. L’écriture entremêle aussi les langues des répertoires des participants, dans les textes, dessins et photographies qui aboutiront à la création et à l’édition de deux livre(t)s collectifs, miroirs aussi de celui de l’écrivain.
