There has been a debate on the efficiency of lockdown policies worldwide, and several researchers have studied this aspect by trying to implement different statistical models. The aim of the research was to compare two countries with similar lockdown policies and observe the impact of the total lockdown policy on the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Taking in consideration that the total lockdown in Romania lasted for 52 days and in Hungary for 54 days, we would like to see how the infection rate changed with every week of the lockdown by obtaining an average for every week (7 days) divided by the total lockdown days in each country. The values that we took in consideration are as follows: the daily infected cases, the daily infected cases/million, the daily cases of death and the daily cases of death/million in both countries. We tried to apply the same rule after the end of the total lockdown and observe the outcomes. The results showed that the minimum number of days to observe the effects of total lockdown and the effects after the lockdown was 21 (3 weeks) in both countries.
In 2020, the educational system was taken by surprise by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the educational institutions were delivering face-to-face classes and were forced to switch to online teaching in a very short period of time due to lockdown measures and the health and safety measures put in place by public authorities. In addition to universities, professional courses were also forced to be delivered online. Most of the time, these professional courses are important because they are directly linked to keeping the right to practice. The present paper focuses on the changing pattern in behavior of professionals and their acceptance of online courses. By applying over 1000 questionnaires in a timespan of more than one year, we have studied the impact of digitalization on the behavior and perception of professionals. We measured if the change towards online courses could be sustainable in the long run. The results of our study show that the behavior of professionals is different than those of students and that the online courses can be a long-term solution for education in professional environments.
The study aimed to assess self-reported symptoms of periodontal disease (gingival bleeding, tooth mobility and halitosis) among diabetic and non-diabetic patients from Transylvania, Romania. Using statistical analysis methods, correlation between the aforementioned symptoms and diet, oral hygiene habits, stress, physical activity, and BMI (body mass index) were researched. Another secondary objective was to assess the impact of self-reported oral health, aesthetics, and halitosis on their life. Patients’ willingness to use a mobile app for generating awareness of oro-dental complications, improving their knowledge of oro-dental health, and reminding them to visit the dentist based on an awareness-raising function, was also assessed. Methods: The study was based on an original self-administered questionnaire, applied to 182 subjects, in an unselected, randomized manner. A total of 110 questionnaires were applied in two dental offices and 72 questionnaires were applied in a public clinic for diabetic patients from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Results: Warning signs and symptoms relevant to periodontal disease were identified by respondents, having statistically significant associations with the declared oral health-care habits, including interdental aids, vicious habits (nail biting, bruxism), etc. Some of these periodontal signs could be correlated with a certain lifestyle, such as the perceived stress, smoking status, practicing maintenance sports, and alcohol consumption. A total of 66% of the non-diabetics and 68% of the diabetics of the surveyed subjects consider a software application for generating awareness of oro-dental complications useful, and are willing to pay around EUR 6 for it. Conclusions: Having a medical condition such as diabetes makes patients pay more attention to dental health compared with non-diabetic patients. Patients expressed their desire to use a software application to help them to be aware of their condition and for improving their self-report capabilities, including their oral-health-related status.
