Corbula faba Hinds or white mussel is one of the marine organisms easily found around Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. The main component of its shell is chitin that can be derivate to chitosan. Chitosan is widely used especially in the water treatment process as a coagulant due to its biocompatibility and biodegradability. In this study, chitosan produced from white mussel shells was used as a coagulant for treated Surabaya River water. The initial value of TSS in the sample water was 373.0 mg/L whereas TDS was 59.5 mg/L. The rapid mixing condition, such as speed and time, influenced the result of solids removal. Higher speed and longer time mixing would give better performance of flocs formation, but the flocks would be unstable after reach some points of conditions. The optimum mixing condition was obtained when using140 rpm on speed for 4 minutes with TSS removal up to 94.96% and TDS removal up to 23.32%.
Cabai dikenal memiliki nilai jual yang cukup tinggi namun karena memiliki kadar air yang tinggi menyebabkan cabai ini mudah mengalami kerusakan terutama setelah dipanen. Permasalahan ini memerlukan penanganan lebih lanjut khususnya untuk memperlama masa simpan dari cabai dengan menggunakan tekonologi tepat guna melalui program bina desa. Tujuan program tersebut yaitu mengenalkan suatu teknologi pengeringan cabai berupa alat pengering cabai modifikasi. Program ini tidak hanya berhenti pada kegiatan pelatihan, namun nantinya akan dilakukan pendampingan kegiatan produksi, pengemasan sekaligus pemasaran produk. Hal tersebut merupakan bagian dari strategi pemberdayaan bagi Kelompok Tani Tri Rejeki. Metode demonstrasi dan praktek dipilih sebagai metode dalam pelaksanaan program tersebut. Hasil yang didapatkan yaitu terciptanya teknologi pengeringan cabai modifikasi menggunakan bahan bakar gas yang dilengkapi dengan pengatur suhu otomatis. Alat ini memiliki ukuran yaitu 55 x 45 x 43 cm dengan kapasitas ± 2 kg. Penyusutan berat dari cabai rawit merah dan cabai merah besar masing-masing sekitar 80% dan 75%. Dari segi waktu pengeringan alat pengering cabai modifikasi hanya memerlukan waktu pengeringan selama 4 jam dibandingkan dengan metode konvensiaonal yang memerlukan waktu sekitar 3-5 hari.
Bocek Village, located in Karangploso District, Malang Regency, is one of the villages known for its chili production. However, the production of chili plants in this village is often affected by diseases caused by pests such as the fungus Colletotrichum spp., which will cause anthracnose (Patek) disease. This disease can cause defects in chili, reducing the quality of chili production. The farmers have handled the handling by using chemical pesticides, which are considered less effective and harm the environment. One solution that can be used is to use extracts from the citronella to be used as organic pesticides. This community service activity aims to introduce organic pesticides with citronella oil as raw material to the Tri Rejeki farmers group in Bocek Village. The socialization activity was carried out using the lecture method with the material covering the introduction of pesticides, the difference between chemical and organic pesticides, extraction of essential oils with a simple method, and the production process of organic pesticides with citronella oil. An evaluation of the participants was also carried out through a questionnaire given before and after the socialization. After the socialization was conducted, participants understood more about organic pesticides and how to produce them
Salah satu mata pencaharian yang banyak berkembang di dalah industri pengolahan tahu. Industri tahu dalam pengolahannya menghasilkan produk samping berupa limbah padat dan limbah cair. Limbah padat yang dihasilkan biasanya dimanfaatkan sebagai pakan ternak dan dijual kepada para peternak. Sedangkan, limbah cair hasil samping produksi tahu belum melalui tahap pengelolaan, sehingga hanya dibuang dan dialirkan begitu saja ke sungai. Limbah cair tahu mengandung beberapa komponen yang dapat merusak ekologi. Tujuan dilaksanakannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi banyaknya limbah cair tahu yang dihasilkan industri tahu Desa Bocek, sehingga mengetahui potensi limbah cair tersebut dalam pemanfaatannya sebagai bahan baku sumber bahan bakar alternatif biogas. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode wawancara, observasi lapangan, analisis neraca massa proses produksi tahu, serta identifikasi potensi limbah tahu sebagai bahan baku biogas. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi dua industri tahu yaitu pabrik tahu tiga bersaudara dan pabrik tahu AN2 di Desa Bocek, dimana menghasilkan limbah cair tahu berturut-turut sebesar 2.603,2397 kg/hari n 1.145,43 kg/hari. Volume biogas yang diperoleh dari limbah cair tahu tersebut yaitu sebesar 3,4171 m3/hari, yang diperkirakan dapat memenuhi kebutuhan bahan bakar gas sekitar 12 rumah tangga per bulan.
The addition of alcohol as an oxygenated compound in gasoline blends may increase the vapor pressure of gasoline mixture. As a result, the study of vapor-liquid equilibrium for gasoline component and alcohol is necessary. In this study, the vapor-liquid equilibrium of isobutanol – isooctane/n-heptane blends were obtained experimentally at temperatures in the range 303.15 to 323.15 K using modified simple quasi-static ebulliometer. The apparatus was validated by comparing the vapor pressure of pure isobutanol, isooctane, and n-heptane with the published data and giving average absolute deviation (AAD) between experimental and calculated ones with magnitude less than 1.0%. The addition of isobutanol with the mole fraction range from 0.2 to 0.6 would increase the vapor pressure of the isooctane and n-heptane up to 12% and 14% respectively. The vapor pressure of binary mixtures was correlated with the Wilson, Non-random two-liquid (NRTL), and Universal quasi-chemical (UNIQUAC) equations with AAD 1.6%, 1.5%, and 1.7%, respectively for isobutanol + isooctane system and 1.8%, 1.7%, and 2.0%, respectively for isobutanol + n-heptane system. The systems studied show positive deviation from Raoult’s Law.
