Background: This study sought to provide a comprehensive analysis of the medical tourism supply chain (MTSC) in Shiraz, Iran, to improve the city’s potential tourism market share in the post-COVID-19 future. In doing so, the study relied on a mixed research methodology. Primarily, interviews were conducted with 12 stakeholders involved in Shiraz’s MTSC, including general policymakers, managers of private/public healthcare providers, travel agency managers, and managers of medical tourism companies. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were then analyzed according to the systematic approach of grounded theory (GT).Results: The results helped to configure a model that analyzed Shiraz’s MTSC, which included 6 main dimensions, 17 sub-dimensions, and 48 criteria. To detect any interrelationships among the criteria, the model was further analyzed quantitatively through the rough Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method.Conclusion: Proposing a novel methodology in medical tourism research, the study could practically contribute to different stakeholders in the medical tourism industry in Shiraz.

Background Previous studies mentioned four organizational structures for hospitals, which are budgetary, autonomous, corporate, and private. Nevertheless, healthcare decision-makers are still required to select the most organizational structure specific to their circumstances. The present study aims to provide a framework to prioritize and select the most suitable organizational structure using multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods in Iranian hospitals. Methods First, a multicriteria decision-making model consisted of the respective criteria, and alternatives were developed. The pertinent criteria were identified through a systematic literature review. The coefficient weights of the identified criteria were then calculated using FUCOM-F. Finally, organizational structures were prioritized in accordance with the identified criteria using FMARCOS. Results The findings reveal that income is the most significant criterion in selecting organizational structures for hospitals whereas the number of outpatient visits is the least important. Also, the private structure is the most appropriate, and budgetary style is the least suitable organizational structure for Iranian hospitals. Conclusion Providing a framework in order to select the most appropriate organizational structure could help managers and policymakers of the healthcare sector in Iran and other countries, mainly similar developing countries.

Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) is one the most important branches of decision theory. Due to the fact that MCDM methods have the utmost significance in management, scholars try to develop more MCDM methods. Since calculating the weights of criteria is an important step in any MCDM method, increasing the accuracy of weight calculating methods can highly affect these methods. This accuracy can be improved by less pairwise comparison between criteria. To this end, the present study seeks to make a comparison between two new weight calculating techniques, namely BWM and FUCOM in a fuzzy environment using a real-world case study Results of this study shows that FUCOM-F provides more reliable results compared to FBWM since its consistency is less than FBWM by a great amount.

Purpose Social risk management has recently come to the fore as a significant feature of project management. This prominence is particularly evident in urban construction projects that take place in cultural heritage and tourism historic sites. Accordingly, this study aims to adopt social network analysis (SNA) to investigate social risks in construction projects occurring in urban districts rife with historically and culturally significant tourism sites. Design/methodology/approach The present study analyzed a real case study in Iran as an emergent economy and a developing country. Primarily, the study reviewed previous literature on social risks and relevant stakeholders. Next, the judgments of experts through the content validity ratio analysis confirmed 12 social risks and 9 key stakeholders. Finally, SNA is used to determine the relations between the social risks and stakeholders as well as the significance of each risk. Findings The investigation demonstrated that the most important social risks in the construction projects of the case study are “Psychological disorders”, “Environmental pollution” and “Cultural conflicts”. Practical implications The findings could help policymakers, urban planners and project managers in developing countries with a rich cultural heritage to reduce social risks and improve the efficiency of their projects. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the present study is one of the first instances to investigate construction projects implemented in densely populated urban areas hosting cultural heritage and historic tourism sites.
