Ultrasound haptics is a contactless haptic technology that enables novel mid-air interactions with rich multisensory feedback. This paper surveys recent advances in ultrasound haptic technology. We discuss the fundamentals of this haptic technology, how a variety of perceptible sensations are rendered, and how it is currently being used to enable novel interaction techniques. We summarize its strengths, weaknesses, and potential applications across various domains. We conclude with our perspective on key directions for this promising haptic technology.
This paper contains a succinct survey on the recent major advances in contactless ultrasonic tactile feedback. It is a haptic technology which enables easy mid-air interactions with rich multisensory feedback and creates effects which are otherwise impossible. It can become a disruptive technology for multimedia interfaces, applications, and mobile computing. We summarize and discuss the advantages, problems and applications of the technology. This survey provides an introduction to the topic for anyone interested in applying or researching it.
This paper describes a therapeutic full-body controlled video game for children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).The game supports a co-located gameplay with a depth-sensing camera and a large media screen. Children play the game in pairs for improved impulse and behavior control, self-regulation, peer-communication, and emotion regulation. The gaming was implemented as a part of a neuropsychological group intervention for children with confirmed deficits in attention or diagnosed ADHD. We present a final design of the game and associated gaming routines, explain anticipated health benefits of the gaming, outline how the gaming can be used for research and therapeutic purposes, and provide directions for future research.

Projected walk-through fogscreens can be used to render user interfaces, but lack inherent tactile feedback, thus hindering the user experience. This study examines this by investigating wireless wearable vibrotactile feedback on mid-air hand gesture interaction with a large fogscreen. Participants (n = 20) selected objects from a fogscreen by tapping and dwell-based gestural techniques. The results showed that the participants preferred the tactile feedback. Further, while tapping was the most effective selection gesture, dwell-based target selection required haptic feedback to feel natural.
