Abstract. Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) can be used to capture surface details including color and reflectance properties, enabling subsequent interactive rendering and re-lighting of digitized artifacts, enhancing and revealing otherwise obscured information. This paper presents a contextualized RTI visualization technique, transforming data analysis from desktop-based visualization into hands-on, interactive, intuitive, and collaborative data exploration that can augment RTI data directly on the physical artifact. Networked, mobile devices are introduced as visual interfaces to the data and as physical controllers for the intuitive manipulation of virtual light sources, including their position and characteristics.
