ABSTRACTFavorable periods to sowing as well as the spatial arrangement in which plants are found in the growing area are factors that directly influence soybean yield. The best equidistance between plants for a certain growing period may result in greater use of water, light and nutrients by plants. In this context, in two summer's crops, two field trials were carried out in order to evaluate the agronomic performance of soybean grown at different sowing periods and spatial plant distribution. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design in subdivided plots with four replications. In the plots, four equidistant sowing periods of 15 days from October 3 (2014/15 and 2015/16) were allocated and in the subplots, we arranged, randomly, the traditional and narrow plant spacing (inter-row spacing of 0.5 m and 0.25 m, respectively). At harvest, morphological characteristics, yield components and grain yield were evaluated. The sowing time influenced the morphological characteristics and yield components of soybean. Delaying the sowing season provided lower grain yields. Soybean cultivars behave differently in relation to the reduction of sowing inter-row spacing. BMX Desafio RR ® presented higher yield when cultivated in 0.25 m inter-row spacing compared to traditional spacing (0.5 m).KEYWORDS: plant spatial arrangements, Glycine max, phenotypic plasticity.
In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of soybean cultivars in narrow row and this procedure associated to different sowing dates. Therefore, three field experiments were performed in two agriculture seasons. In the season 2014/15 an experiment was conducted in randomized completely block design, with four repetitions, in factorial arrangement 8 x 2. The combination of eight soybean cultivars and two spacing sowing between rows, traditional and narrow (0.5 and 0.25 m, respectively), composed the treatments. In the following season (2015/16), two experiment were performed, each one with a soybean cultivar. The same experimental design and number of repetition was used, differing from the anterior experiment by the adoption of split plot scheme. The three sowing dates, equidistant in 15 days, were allocated in the plots, and disposing in the subplots the traditional and narrow sowing spacing. There was no difference between spac...
Grain sorghum has been cultivated extensively in the Central-West region of Brazil in succession with soybean, since the species tolerates the low rainfall conditions recorded during this growing season. Phytotechnological adjustments for sorghum are still necessary in order to exploit the maximum yield potential of the crop. In this context, altering the plant distribution may result in better utilization of the growing area with a consequent increase in grain yield. On this basis, field experiments were conducted with two grain sorghum hybrids, replicated in two different locations, in order to evaluate the effect of the spatial arrangement of plants on the agronomic performance of grain sorghum. The design was a randomized complete block design in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme, with five replications. The factors consisted of two row spacings (0.50 and 0.25 m) and four plant densities: 120, 180, 240, and 300 thousand plants ha-1. The sorghum hybrids used were 1G244® and 1G100®. At harvest, morphological characteristics, yield components, and grain yields were evaluated. Row spacing did not influence the characteristics evaluated except for the plant height of for both hybrids, in addition to the stem diameter, tillering, and mass of a thousand grains for 1G100®. The increase in plant density provided an increase in grain yield, being the highest number of panicles per area the most expressive component for this behavior.
Soybeans sowing in different plants' spatial distribution can influence the phytosanitary management of this crop and, consequently, impact on grains yield. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of plants arrangements on infestation and control of caterpillars, the deposition of spray syrup as well as assess the agronomic performance of soybean cultivated in the Brazilian Cerrado. The assay was performed during two consecutive seasons in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Soybean cultivation was implemented in 0.50 m spacing between rows, crossed (0.50 m x 0.50 m), twin rows (0.25 m / 0.75 m), and narrow (0.25 m). In the reproductive stage of plants, both crossed and narrow arrangements showed higher caterpillars' incidence. There was a more evident risk of caterpillar incidence in arrangements that promoted better equidistance among plants. This risk was mitigated when taking into account both control and overlap of syrup, which could be incremented into inferior canopy with the enhancement of application rate. The increase in application rate from 75 to 150 L ha-1 promoted superior spray deposition volumes. Increases in grain yield was noted in the narrow arrangement.
When sown at the ideal time, the spacing reduction does not influence the corn crop. Under favorable climatic conditions, the increase in the plant population of corn increases yield. Reduction in interrow spacing in corn (0.25 m) is a promising alternative under unfavorable climatic conditions.
