AbstractMost of the studies conducted so far on the Sport Education model (SE), have been conducted in British and American countries with students of the secondary education (between 12 and 18 years). In these studies, the main objective has been focused on the analysis of the influence of SE in the teaching of sports skills. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the initial implementation experiences of a teacher and his students, in the elementary education. The sample consisted of 48 students in their third grade (29 boys and 19 girls) and a teacher with ten years experience. A teaching unit (eight sessions) under the criteria of the Sport Education, from "Dodgeball" was designed and implemented The results show how students who participated, appreciated the teaching model, and improved his perception in most of the aspects that define it (competence, literate and enthusiastic) In addition, the professor pointed out, a very useful experience at the professional level. These results are consistent with those found previously in research on the SE in different countries. SE has a positive effect as curricular model in the 3rd grade of the elementary education, because let the students to be more competent, more skilled and most enthusiastic in games in physical education classes.
Abstract. This research, conducted in the 2013-2014 academic year, analyzes the perceptions of secondary students on the factors implicit in the physical self, after receiving a fitness teaching unit (TU) using the attitudinal style methodology. Data are analyzed (pretest-posttest) by gender in a group of 231 students (102 boys and 129 girls). The method is mixed, using a descriptive and inferential analysis and an interview with the teacher at the end of the experience. In the pretest, the boys scored higher in the factors of perceived competence and physical strength. In the posttest the difference between groups was not significant, while there was a great increase in the perceived competence of the girls. The boys who engage in more extracurricular physical activity show higher learning about the TU received, while in girls differences are dependent on academic performance. The teacher emphasizes the importance of the methodology used to generate perceptions of achievement in students. It is concluded that the methodological approach used in the classroom has a direct impact on student self-concept.
In recent years, there have been many proposals for interdisciplinary works in the field of education. However, few of them are implemented to see the effects they produce. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the effect of the Sport Education model, on the perception of learning and satisfaction of teachers and students, after an integrated unit between physical education, mathematics and Spanish language. To do this, it was used one class of 16 students of 5th grade, and teachers of the different subjects, which implemented an interdisciplinary unit over four weeks. After analyzing the interviews and questionnaires, it has been shown that teachers perceived that it is important that interdisciplinary interventions be part of an overall improvement of the learning process of students. Also they confirm that the work process must be planned collaboratively, and with constant communication, job security and sense of belonging to the school to ensure effective work. In general, both teachers and students perceived the Sport Education model as a model with multiple possibilities for interdisciplinary work, which can leads to optimal levels of achievement.
