Kampung improvement program in Surabaya is considered successful in enhancing the quality of housing and settlement based on sustainable development. Recently, the kampungs development is directed toward tourism thematic (Thematic Tourism Kampung Programme) that adopts cultural conservation value. The goals are not only to improve the socioeconomic prosperity of Kampung's people, but also to conserve the kampung's culture and tradition. As a consequence, the function and meaning of kampung may change from urban kampung to tourism kampung. The kampung settlement becomes more accessible to the public visitors and affect the kampung's sense of place to its inhabitants. This paper aims to enrich the model of sense of place in the context of tourism kampung development in Surabaya. This study is developed through literature review of relevant studies and in-depth interview with some respondents. The different theories of sense of place are reviewed to show the need of a shared definition of what constitutes a sense of place, its features, and its performance in the specific context (tourism kampung). The main dimensions and elements' sense of place were used as questionnaires' variables in the tourism kampung context. The result of this research explains sense of place model in the context of tourism kampong that consist of form, activity, and meaning which has sub variable namely place attachment and bonding.
This study aimed to describe the 8 th grader students' mistake while working on algebra, the causes of the mistake, and the appropriate process of scaffolding to help the student realize his mistake. The researcher gave the test about algebra to all students on class A and class B to select the subject. After the subjects' answers were analyzed, they were given the scaffolding and interviewed. The researcher found that the errors students did are in understanding the meaning of variables, carrying out the procedure, and the solving linear equations of one variable. Commonly, students' mistake were caused by a failure in relating the problems with previous material and the lack of mastering basic arithmetic. To help the subjects realizing their mistake, researcher gave scaffolding level 2, that is reviewing and restructuring.
Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon that occurs in almost all metropolitan cities in the world. The UHI phenomenon also occurs in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, a metropolitan city with an area of 662 km2, 12 million inhabitants, and an average population density of 16,000 per km2. Previous research shows the area of UHI, areas with temperatures> 300, in Jakarta in 1989 reached 84.53 km2 or 0.1 % of the total area. Based on these facts, the aim of this study is to identify changes in the area of UHI areas from 2008 to 2018 and their relation to land use changes. Temperature data used in this study are from Landsat satellite images in 2008, 2013 and 2018, while the land use data used are from National Geospatial Information Agency. Similar to the previous research, the operational definition of UHI used in this study is that UHI is the area with surface temperature > 300. The method used is spatial analysis and comparison method. The results showed that the area of UHI in Jakarta had increased. The areas of UHI Jakarta were 36.5%, 84.7%, and 85.2% of the total areas respectively in 2008, 2013 and 2018. The increases of UHI’s area were in line with the increases of the built areas that respectively 79.2%, 82.9% and 85.2%. Land use for housing, commercial and services, industry and warehousing and transportation facilities seem to be more significantly affecting the increases of UHI area rather other land uses.
Kampung Surabayan is one of old kampungs in Surabaya, Indonesia, that has some potentials which can be developed as a sustainable kampung by balancing the environmental, socio-cultural, and economic aspects. In environmental aspect, Kampung Surabayan already has a good management based on various achievements from Green and Clean Competition (an eco-friendly settlement competition) and Safe Kampung Competition which held by Surabaya Government. The historical potential and cultural heritage, cooperative kampung's residents, unique "kampung" traditions such as "cangkruk" or "free chattering" and "adu doro" or "pigeon racing", carry social and culture values. Also, the green economy values that come from the resident's creativity to manage domestic garbages into unique and valuable handicrafts. One aspect that still be left behind is heritage conservation. As an old kampung, Kampung Surabayan should be conserved in order to keep the authenticity of Kampung's heritage. The potentials of Kampung Surabayan can be integrated by Heritage Tourism Concept to create a sustainable kampung heritage.
Flats corridors' designs that are relatively narrow are less able to accommodate the needs of social space for residents in low cost flats. This is because Indonesian people are used to livinge in horizontal housing, one of them being the kampung. The kampung alley provides for various forms of dynamic activity and social interaction for resident, and make it to be a good social space. Related to this fact, architects have the task of designing flats corridors that could accomodate residents' needs for social space such as the user's behaviour setting in a kampung street. This issue is in line with the case study in Sombo Flat's corridor which was designed based on the characteristics of a kampung street's behaviour setting concept. With that concept, flats corridors were designed very wide, approximately 3-9 meters. This wide corridor give residents the opportunity for social interaction and other dynamic activities that take place in the corridors. This paper aims to evaluate the design implementation of the Sombo Flat's corridors using analysis on behaviour setting method, which covers the pattern of the activities, setting/milieu, synormophy (the relationship between activity and the setting), and also analysing space usage patterns that occur in the corridors. The data are collected through observation, interview, documentation and analyze with descriptive qualitative methods. The results of the research show that Sombo Flat's corridor, designed based on the characteristics of a kampung street concept, can accomodate the resident's pattern of activities well, especially in the function of social space to create a sense of neighborhood. However, the negative impact from this wide corridor design is that it gives residents an opportunity to appropriate their personal space in the corridor which supposedly is a public space (thereby changing the spatial usage).
