XPS spectra are presented for two different preparations of an SnO 2 ͑110͒ single crystal surface. A highly oxygen-deficient surface is prepared by ion-bombardment and annealing to 1000 K in ultrahigh vacuum. In situ oxidation with N 2 O is used to produce a nearly stoichiometric surface. Both surfaces exhibit ͑1ϫ1͒ LEED periodicities. In spite of the known variations in composition between these two surfaces, normal emission XPS shows only a 5% variation in the apparent compositions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
