Under the theoretical wing of Conceptual Metaphor Theory, we present a contrastive cognitive and linguistic analysis of the WOMEN ARE ANIMALS metaphor as used in Romanian and Serbian. Our main aim is to establish whether the names of the same animals are used in the two languages to conceptualise women and their various characteristics (particularly physical appearance and character traits), or alternatively, whether the two languages exhibit any linguistic or conceptual differences in this regard.
The future professional translator and interpreter needs to be able to communicate successfully both in the source and in the target language. Among the causes that generate unsuccessful communication is also the inability to speak a language as close to a native speaker as possible. In any language, but especially in English, a faulty pronunciation leads to major message misunderstandings. Therefore, correct pronunciation is essential for any interpreter. The 1st year students of the bachelor's degree program "Translation-Interpreting" of the Faculty of Communication Sciences within the Politehnica University Timişoara (Romania) encounter difficulties in pronouncing English accurately. The present article identifies the causes generating this situation and proposes strategies to overcome it.
The paper describes an expert system, named DiagRED, for the Electrical Distribution Network Steady State Diagnosis. Following the introduction, the 2 nd section presents the theoretical background regarding the applying of the Model Based Diagnosis (MBD) to the power systems steady state operation. Basic concepts and the MBD models for the discussed case are given. The 3 rd section presents the fuzzy indices for steady state operation diagnosis. Within the 4 th section, the DiagRED structure and its components are presented. Database, knowledge base and user interface are described. The main functors and rules implemented in the Prolog language are given. The 5 th section is focusing on presenting the case study, represented by a real 87 buses distribution network. Finally the conclusions of the paper are presented.
The protecting systems against overvoltages produced all over the world make more and more use of variable resistors based on metal oxides known under the name of varistors as they present a series of advantages when compared with other similar protecting systems. In this respect, the paper presents, besides a short comparative analysis of the protecting system, a Romanian concept concerning the realization of protecting modules equipped with ZnO varistors and original experiments which demonstrate their high quality and usefulness.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
