As mobility becomes a key concept within geography it needs to be considered what a radical approach to mobility means. Reviewing literature on mobilities from within transport, policy mobilities and migration studies, this article discusses three interpretations of radical mobility: scale or speed of changes required in mobility, critical approaches tracing mobilities and relations of power and approaches that question the ontology of mobility. Drawing on material and radical black feminist thought, I instead suggest a rhizomatic understanding of mobility as material-semiotic transformation of energy. This ontology shifts understandings of what just and sustainable mobilities can be.

In an experimental session entitled Co-Producing Mobilities held at the 2014 Royal Geographical Society-Institute of British Geographers Annual Conference, twenty mobility scholars travelled around London on foot, by bus and by Tube to investigate how mobilities could be considered co-produced. In this paper, eighteen participants reflect on this collaborative experiment and on how it influenced their thinking about mobilities, geographical knowledge and pedagogy. Contributions cast light on the function of conferences and the multiple forms of pedagogy they enable, and provide guiding resources for those now wanting to continue such experiments.

We are a new, small and emerging social justice network of feminist activists, academics and community workers, building a collaborative, capacity-releasing feminist network by making connections between UK and globally-based allied projects of resistance. We work to create co-equal and co-creative safe(r) spaces and share our lived experiences of occupying and resisting hostile environments where we have been made to be out of place, unwelcome and unsafe. We do not assume that these spaces are felt in common between us, but they enable us to take up our own space, to tell our own stories, to move across boundaries and borders, to be heard and visible (where desired), and to resist. Using arts-based methods of enquiry, we pose living questions in our work together which are ongoing and ever-adapting alongside our lived experiences of occupying and resisting hostile environments.

Scholarship and advocacy on mobility justice needs to attend carefully to how presumptions about mobile embodiment are reproduced. This paper critically assesses some of the presumptions about the mobile subject within cycling interventions that focus on behaviour and infrastructural change. Bringing material and Black feminist theory together with ethnographic fieldwork on urban cycling in Los Angeles in 2014-2015, I suggest mobile subjectivity can be understood through the process of enfleshment, rather than centring on individualised cycling embodiment. Imagined through the cycling lungs, enfleshment allows for a mobile subjectivity that is inherently exposed in highly uneven ways; configured through matter and meaning; and a materialisation of relations of power distributed across space and time. Thinking with enfleshment contributes to cycling advocacy, mobility justice and geographical theory on the body by shifting how mobile subjects are understood and how difference, justice and the politics of the street are imagined and practised.
