Background: A proper rehabilitation program may prevent post-stroke neurological, structural, and functional disabilities. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of caregiver training in the rehabilitation of stroke survivors and compare rehabilitation interventions done by the therapist. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted among 67 stroke survivors divided into group A (home-based exercise by family caregivers; n=33) and group B (hospital-based supervised exercise by a physiotherapist; n=34). Family caregivers were trained according to "The London Stroke Carers Training Course." The functional independence measure (FIM) evaluated all patients after three months of physiotherapy. Results: The mean age of the participants in group A and group B were 56.85 ± 11.49 and 58.65 ± 16.92 years, respectively, where most of the patients in both groups were male. In group A, 17 (51.5%) participants had left-sided involvement, while in group B, 17 (50.0%) participants had left-sided involvement. There was no significant statistical difference in FIM between groups A and B at baseline (p=0.532). At three months, the mean FIM of the participants in group A (98.54 ± 11.85) was significantly higher than in group B (89.85 ± 8.15) (p=0.001). A quasi-significant difference was observed between the right (18.41 ± 9.37) and the left (23.42 ± 11.68) hemisphere involvement regarding mean improvement of FIM (p=0.057).Conclusion: Therapeutic approach provided by trained caregivers was found to be more effective and efficient than that done by a physiotherapist.
Background: The dural venous sinuses show different types of morphometric variations in their anatomy as well as involvement with various neurological conditions like cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, venous sinus stenosis, embolism, fistula etc. Cerebral MRV (Magnetic Resonance Venography) is a well-established radiological technique to visualize the dural venous system. By measuring the sinus dimensions in cerebral MRV images and calculating the indices, morphometric variations of the dural venous sinuses can be identified which is essential for diagnosing different pathologies of the dural venous system. Researcher have detected most of the variations in the superior sagittal, transverse and sigmoid venous sinuses. Objectives: To develop anatomical baseline data on morphometric measurements of the dural venous sinuses in normal cerebral MRV images of adult Bangladeshis. Methods: The research was cross-sectional and observational in nature. It was carried out in the Department of Anatomy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in collaboration with the Department of Neuroradiology & Imaging, National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital (NINS), Dhaka, from March 2020 to June 2021. Adults (35 males and 35 females) aged 18 years or above who attended in the Department of Neuroradiology & Imaging, NINS for cerebral MRV and diagnosed as having normal dural venous sinuses without any pathology by a registered Neuroradiologist were the participants of this research. The MRV scans were produced by using 3 Tesla magnetic field strength following the routine standard protocols of the institution. By using the Radiant DICOM Viewer software, a total of 9 linear and curvilinear dimensions were measured and 2 indices were calculated by the researcher and the co-investigator independently to reach consensus on each variable. Results: A numerical data set was generated on the morphometric measurements of the superior sagittal, transverse and sigmoid sinuses ......
Incisional site metastasis in abdominal malignancy following laparotomy is uncommon and extremely rare in cervical cancer. The prognosis is poor in these patients, as they also present with distant organ metastasis. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix in a 40-year-old woman primarily treated with radical hysterectomy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Later on, she presented with incisional scar site recurrence and underwent surgical excision of the metastatic site several times along with chemotherapy. She has been in stable condition for nearly 10 years since her first recurrence. We highlighted the management strategies of this patient that contributed to her longevity.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
