Heterocyclic moiety serve as perfect framework on which pharmacophores can be effectively attached to produce novel drugs. Among various heterocyclic compounds, nitrogen-based heterocycles have been extensively investigated as they constitute the core structures of numerous biologically relevant molecules and have been found to be active against different types of cancers. Due to the versatility of indole, it has been a highly "privileged motif" for the target-based design and development of anticancer agents. Moreover, it has been used as a synthon for the preparation of large number of bioactive heterocycles and paved a way to develop effective targets. This review article presents comprehensive overview of anticancer potentiality of diversely substituted indole derivatives including 1H-indole-2,3dione and Spiro indole derivatives.

Some novel analogs of 4H-1,4-benzothiazines were synthesized under environmentally benign solvent free conditions by one pot oxidative cyclocondensation of substituted 2- aminobenzenthiols with compounds having active methylene group and then converted in to sulfones. These compounds were examined as antitubercular agents against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv using REMA plate method. The best results have MICs from 6.4 to 8.8 μg/mL, comparable to phenothiazines. IR, NMR and mass spectral investigations are included for structural elucidation.

In recent years, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel 4H-1,4-benzothiazines and their sulfone derivatives have gained momentum due to their medicinal and industrial importance. Our studies focused on the design and synthesis of new antimicrobial agents, and for this purpose a series of novel 4H-1,4-benzothiazines and their sulfone derivatives were synthesized and their in vitro antimicrobial assessment was carried out against a representative panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria strains and selected fungi species. The reported 4H-1,4-benzothiazines were prepared by condensation followed by oxidative cyclization of substituted 2-aminobenzenethiols with compounds containing active methylene groups. It is believed that the reaction proceeds via intermediary of the enaminoketone system. The sulfone derivatives were synthesized by oxidation of 4H-1,4-benzothiazines using 30% hydrogen peroxide in glacial acetic acid. Structure determination was done by spectral and elemental investigations.

An efficient, environmentally benign and novel method for the synthesis of phenacyl halides as antiplatelet agents has been reported in the presence of nanocatalyst (TiO2) by using N‐halosuccinimides (NXS, X=Cl, Br) as a source of halogen and tert‐Butyl Hydrogen Peroxide (TBHP) under microwave irradiation. Compound 2a showed best in vitro antiplatelet activity with 540 and 480 sec as clotting time in prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) assay respectively. Rest compounds showed good to moderate activity. Structures of all synthesized compounds were elucidated by IR, NMR and Mass spectrometry.

Metal nanoparticles have emerged as immensely desired materials because of their wide array of applications as antimicrobial agents, catalysts, nanomagnets, biosensors, environmental remediating agents, and so forth, but the problem lies with the traditional methods of their synthesis. These methods of synthesis are expensive, complex, less efficient, and hazardous to the environment. Thus, it calls for the development of greener and environmentally benign methods of their synthesis. Researchers worldwide have been vigorously trying to develop safer, simple, efficient, scalable, and eco-friendly methods to synthesize different metal nanoparticles. For this, various green protocols using diversified species of plants, algae, fungi, bacteria, and other microorganisms have been successfully developed.The purpose of this study is to give a detailed account of recent trends in synthesis and diverse applications of plant-based green metal nanoparticles. Plant-mediated synthesis of nanoparticles has emerged as the most soughtafter route since it is economical, convenient, rapid, reliable, stable, and can be used for large-scale productions. The plant-based nanoparticles have also exhibited a broad spectrum of applications in the fields of biomedicine, chemistry, physics, and environmental sciences. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in plantmediated green synthesis of metal nanoparticles, their plausible synthetic mechanism, characterization techniques, and factors affecting their synthesis.This article also provides insights into the diverse applications exhibited by the nanoparticles covering their mechanistic aspects.

A series of pyrano­[3,2-c]­quinolone derivatives has been synthesized in the presence of taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) as a green bio-organic catalyst and water as the solvent. The target compounds were synthesized through the three-component reaction between aldehydes, malononitrile/ethylcyanoacetate, and 4-hydroxy-1-methyl-2­(1H)-quinolone. The advantages of this protocol are excellent yields of products, short reaction times, cost efficiency, atom economy, and a simple work-up procedure with no need for extra purification techniques. Moreover, the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused for up to three cycles without losing any significant activity.

Ionic Liquid assisted efficient synthesis of some 2-aminobenzenethiols has been reported using three different Ionic Liquids (ILs) namely methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [MIM]+[BF4]−, methylimidazolium chloride [MIM]+[Cl]− and methylimidazolium nitrate [MIM]+[NO3]−. A comparative study has been carried out for the synthesis of target molecules in the presence and absence of IL, leading to conclusion that maximum yield has been observed with [MIM]+[BF4]−.
