Cómo es posible? Es lo que cualquiera se pregunta cuando, sabiendo la extrema crueldad y violencia que hubo en Ruanda durante el genocidio de 1994, se entera de que agresores y agredidos vuelven a convivir como vecinos 25 años después. La psicología tiene un valor extraordinario para explicar tanto el horror como la superación del mismo. No podemos explicar los procesos de la reconciliación interpersonal o nacional sin antes entender las dinámicas del conflicto en general, y del conflicto de Ruanda en particular. Tanto antes, como durante, como después, tienen lugar procesos emocionales, cognitivos y conductuales, que afectan a los implicados y les hacen capaces de lo mejor y de lo peor. Este es el propósito de este artículo: comprender los procesos psicológicos que llevan al conflicto violento y desarrollar las condiciones para la reconstrucción y la reconciliación personal y social, todo ello ilustrado con el caso de Ruanda, uno de los más privilegiados escenarios para estudiar la violencia y su superación. PROCESOS PSICOLÓGICOS PRE-CONFLICTO: LA INCUBACIÓN DEL ODIO Y EL MIEDOLa movilización de los procesos propios del conflicto empieza con la frustración de necesidades psicológicas básicas, como la seguridad, el control, la identidad, el bienestar o la conexión con otras personas. La identificación con el grupo puede satisfacer estas necesidades psicológicas. Todo grupo construye una visión de sí mismo y de su historia, unas "narrativas colectivas" (Auerbach, 2009) que contienen un argumento y un cierto sentido de coherencia y consistencia. Se refieren a cinco componentes: quiénes son los héroes de la historia, qué pasó, cuándo, dónde y por qué pasó. Las narrativas no son meras descripciones neutras ni representan hechos reales; constituyen relatos del pasado, del presente y futuro, implican valores, significados, creencias y marcos socioculturales. Todo este repertorio psicológico puede ser incorporado en procesos de socialización desde niños (Villa, 2016).Las metanarrativas, a veces llamadas visiones compartidas, sitúan a las narrativas en un contexto más amplio y suponen una fuente de identidad y de legitimidad nacional. Son esquemas abstractos, intangibles, desde los que se interpreta la realidad e incorporan los símbolos básicos, los valores, creencias y códigos de conducta de un colectivo (Auerbach, 2009).
