O artigo analisa a evolução do trabalho informal no Brasil, de 2001 a 2009, com base nas Pesquisas Nacionais por Amostra de Domicílio. Questões como "onde estão" os informais, "quem são", "quanto ganham" orientaram o estudo, tendo, além da comparação entre setor formal e informal, o gênero como foco. A heterogeneidade, marca do setor informal, é visível nos diversos setores econômicos, nas diferentes posições na ocupação, nas desiguais oportunidades de mulheres e negros em relação a homens e brancos. Apesar de o trabalho informal ter diminuído no Brasil durante a década, o pequeno crescimento registrado deveu-se ao ingresso das mulheres e, particularmente, das negras.
ResumoEste artigo tem como propósito discutir as redes de subcontratação e os novos "usos" do trabalho a domicílio como elementos centrais do processo de reestruturação do setor de confecção nos anos 90, bem como seus impactos sobre as condições de trabalho e saúde das mulheres trabalhadoras. Para isso, partimos de uma pesquisa realizada na região de Campinas/SP, que contemplou o estudo de empresas de confecção de pequeno e médio porte, como também uma extensa rede de subcontratação, que tem na sua ponta inferior o trabalho a domicílio. A pesquisa mostra que as mulheres constituem a força de trabalho tradicionalmente subcontratada pelas empresas confeccionistas e ocupam as posições inferiores e mais vulneráveis na cadeia produtiva. Mostra também que o trabalho a domicílio aparece revitalizado, como instrumento central de aumento da produtividade a baixos custos e como forma alternativa de enfrentar a concorrência com grandes empresas do ramo.
Resumo: Este artigo discute a nova divisão sexual do trabalho que resulta do processo de reestruturação produtiva na indústria metalmecânica, enfatizando seus impactos sobre as condições de trabalho e de saúde das mulheres trabalhadoras. A pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, que foi realizada em plantas de diferentes tamanhos nos setores de autopeças e eletroeletrônico, no ABC paulista e em Campinas, examinou as novas formas do trabalho feminino como resultado da introdução de novas práticas gerenciais e de inovações tecnológicas. Foram também investigadas as percepções das trabalhadoras sobre as mudanças no seu trabalho e nas suas condições de saúde, com o propósito de compreender a relação entre novas formas de organização do processo de trabalho e o aprofundamento do sofrimento psicofísico no trabalho. Concluiu-se que o processo de reestruturação das empresas estudadas tem um claro bias de gênero na medida em que os lugares ocupados pelas mulheres na nova divisão do trabalho contribuem para aumentar a deterioração das suas condições de trabalho. Nas fábricas pesquisadas as trabalhadoras estão mais concentradas nos postos com salários menores, sob condições de trabalho ruins e sem proteção contra os riscos derivados das atividades desempenhadas. O artigo mostra que há uma nítida relação entre as mudanças nas condições de trabalho das mulheres e o crescimento de problemas de saúde e de doenças ocupacionais (como as LER e o estresse, entre outras).
