Factors influencing careers in "new" career fieldsThe aim of this article is to discuss organizational and interpersonal factors influencing management career patterns within post-organizational contexts. After defining and specifying relevant terms, a new typology of career fields is developed based on two underlying dimensions, coupling and configuration, which allows a focused view on central properties of new forms of careers. A variety of indicators are presented which suggest that traditional employment is becoming substituted more and more by forms of labor typical for "new" career fields. Finally, empirical findings about vital organizational and interpersonal factors relevant for careers are presented and discussed. The concluding part contains assumptions about changes in relevance of these influencing factors in the light of the altered context in which careers take place.
