ABSTRACT:Objective: To quantify and typify the feminicides occurred in the city of Porto Alegre from 2006 to 2010. Methods: Cross-sectional study that examines the sociodemographic characteristics of victims and perpetrators and the circumstances of feminicides obtained in police investigations of women murdered in the city of Porto Alegre. Statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS software, version 20.0, with the χ 2 test; p <0.05 was considered as significant. Results: Of the 89 surveys analyzed, we categorized 64 deaths (72%) as feminicides. Most victims were young, poorly educated and exercised socially undervalued occupations. They had a history of violence perpetrated by an intimate partner and one quarter of them had registered a police report. Conclusion: These data indicate the magnitude of this crime and the need to identify risk situations and prevent lethal outcomes.

Femicídios são mortes violentas de mulheres, decorrentes do exercício de poder entre homens e mulheres. Este é um estudo qualitativo que utilizou a ferramenta das narrativas para analisar inquéritos policiais de homicídios femininos em Porto Alegre nos anos de 2006 a 2010. Foram estudados 92 inquéritos da Delegacia de Homicídios de Porto Alegre, dos quais selecionamos seis casos considerados representativos de: femicídio íntimo; femicídio com abuso sexual; morte por execução ou conexão, e femicídio de profissional do sexo. Observou-se a presença de crimes de gênero caracterizados pela crueldade, semelhantes aos encontrados em regiões de elevada violência e misoginia. O trabalho procura visibilizar os femicídios como crimes de natureza política, e objetiva denunciar essas mortes evitáveis, cujas vítimas são, em sua maioria, mulheres: jovens, negras, profissionais do sexo e moradoras de territórios marcados pelo tráfico e pela pobreza.

Resumo: Feminicídios são assassinatos de mulheres decorrentes das desigualdades de gênero e representam a forma mais extrema da violência contra a mulher. O referencial teórico-metodológico utilizado neste estudo foi a teoria do patriarcado e a análise crítica do discurso. Foram analisados os discursos referentes ao relatório final de 64 inquéritos policiais categorizados como feminicídios, ocorridos na cidade de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, no período de 2006 a 2010. As vítimas eram majoritariamente mulheres pobres, jovens e moradoras de regiões de periferia, havendo uma frequência elevada de prostitutas e mulheres executadas pelo tráfico; mortes não consideradas feminicídios pelos operadores policiais. Muitos inquéritos foram arquivados devido à ausência de provas e outros não foram nem ao menos iniciados. Nos inquéritos, havia discursos que desqualificavam e culpavam as vítimas, embora alguns criticassem as desigualdades entre homens e mulheres e identificassem os efeitos letais do machismo. Inquéritos policiais são fontes importantes para estudar o feminicídio na sociedade, agregando grande quantidade de informações sobre vítimas, agressores e cenários dos crimes.

Objective: To identify fibromyalgia syndrome in patients with sleep disordered breathing. Method: We studied 50 patients seeking treatment at a sleep disorder clinic for snoring, apnea and excessive daytime sleepiness. Sleep disordered breathing was diagnosed through the use of polysomnography. To diagnose fibromyalgia syndrome, patients were evaluated in accordance with the criteria established by the American College of Rheumatology. Results: Of the 50 patients, 32 were male. The mean (± standard deviation) age of the group was 50 ± 12 years. The mean body mass index was 29.7 ± 5.6 kg/m 2 . The mean apnea-hypopnea index was 36 ± 29 attacks of apnea or hypopnea per hour of sleep. Of the 18 women and 32 men evaluated, 9 and 2, respectively, met the American College of Rheumatology criteria for fibromyalgia syndrome. Conclusion: Considering the fact that the prevalence of fibromyalgia syndrome in the general population is 0.5% for men and 3.4% for women, the more than ten-fold higher proportion of fibromyalgia cases seen in this sample supports the hypothesis that there is an association between sleep disordered breathing and fibromyalgia syndrome.
