RESUMOO objetivo deste estudo é analisar as diferenças entre as prevalências de déficits de crescimento e excesso de peso em crianças de 0-60 meses obtidas a partir dos padrões de referência NCHS (2000) e OMS (2005). Trata-se de um estudo transversal em que foram avaliadas 119 crianças de 0-60 meses no ambulatório de pediatria do Hospital Universitário de Brasília (HUB). Os escolares foram classificados, conforme recomendação da OMS através dos índices Peso/Estatura e Estatura/Idade através dos padrões OMS 2005 e NCHS 2000. Para análise foram utilizados os programas WHO Anthro 2005 e SPSS 13.0. Detectou-se uma alta prevalência de déficits de peso e estatura e excesso de peso em crianças independente do método utilizado. Porém, estas foram maiores utilizando-se o referencial proposto pela OMS em 2005. Conclui-se que a utilização das novas curvas de crescimento (OMS) deve ser imediata, uma vez que as mesmas têm maior representatividade que o referencial NCHS. Porém, independentemente do referencial utilizado, ações para sanar os problemas de déficits de peso e estatura e excesso de peso nas crianças devem ser iniciadas precocemente, já que desvios nutricionais podem aumentar a incidência de doenças crônicas.
A entrega de materiais educacionais de forma eletrônica tem se tornado mais popular na área de saúde, oferecendo novas oportunidades para docentes, estudantes e profissionais de saúde. Contudo, a eficácia do uso de tecnologias de informação e comunicação no ensino na saúde ainda não é clara. Desta forma, o propósito desta revisão sistemática foi identificar estudos recentes (2010 a 2015) que relatassem o efeito das práticas de ensino-aprendizagem apoiadas em tecnologias no aprendizado e satisfação de indivíduos participantes, assim como o impacto na sociedade das estratégias utilizadas durante as ações educacionais. Foram encontradas 12.116 referências contudo 25 trabalhos mostraram-se adequados para esta análise. A maioria dos estudos mostrou resultados em termos de ganhos de conhecimentos (84%), enquanto a satisfação (40%) e o impacto (8%) foram objeto de análise de um menor número de pesquisas. Apesar de grande parte dos estudos apontar resultados positivos das intervenções é importante destacar que as tecnologias são apenas um meio para a entrega de conteúdos. Desta forma, mais estudos que discutam as estratégias de ensino adotadas fazem-se necessários.
Ponto de equilíbrio entre a Ciência da Nutrição e "Fat Studies" A balance point between the Science of Nutrition and "Fat Studies" Resumo A preocupação com a aparência física é grande no Ocidente. Contudo, a busca por tais ideais pode desencadear uma insatisfação com a imagem corporal, transtornos alimentares, distúrbios de imagem corporal, visões estereotipadas e atitudes negativas voltadas aos indivíduos fora do padrão valorizado pela mídia. Grupos ligados à sociologia, estudos de gênero e ativismo feminista uniram-se ao debate, constituindo campo do saber interdisciplinar denominado "Fat Studies" (estudos sobre a gordura ou dos "gordos"). O campo muda o olhar dos aspectos fisiopatológicos associados à adiposidade corporal, para a situação desse grupo de pessoas na sociedade. Criticam duramente o modelo biomédico e sua ineficácia no tratamento da obesidade. Por outro lado, pesquisadores da área de saúde preocupam-se com o discurso de que a saúde seria possível com qualquer peso ou percentual de gordura corporal, bastando um estilo de vida saudável. Este artigo explora o assunto e busca uma aproximação dos campos de pesquisa, um ponto de equilíbrio entre a ciência da nutrição e "Fat Studies".
Este trabalho apresenta uma análise da literatura acerca das pesquisas mais recentes envolvendo a alimentação e suplementação durante o envelhecimento de indivíduos com síndrome de Down. Em decorrência da alta incidência de Alzheimer, torna-se relevante o estudo de fatores que possam contribuir para uma melhor qualidade de vida nesta população. Os custos financeiros, emocionais e familiares na doença de Alzheimer são grandes e aumentam na ausência de uma terapêutica que retarde a progressão dessa. Dessa forma, foi realizada uma busca bibliográfica, referentes aos últimos 10 anos, nas bases de dados Scielo e Bireme. O objetivo foi levantar estudos que relacionassem a alimentação e a suplementação de compostos específicos ao processo de envelhecimento em indivíduos com SD. A análise dos documentos extraídos levou à leitura de 38 artigos. Parte das pesquisas na área de nutrição focaram na importância da neutralização dos radicais livres e na redução da inflamação cerebral como estratégia remediativa para as complicações mais comuns encontradas nessa população. Outros aspectos do envelhecimento de indivíduos com síndrome de Down foram abordados.
