In this paper are highlighted the stresses that appear in the peri-implantation area through the forces induced by the masticatory process. The analysis consists of computer modeling of the dental implant and simulation of the load with a distributed force. It is considered a variable direction loading related to the axial insertion of the dental implant, thus simulating an important masticatory process. This type of load reveals stresses developed in the periimplantary bone area, the risk areas where the stresses can cause the appearance of hard tissue damage near the implant and its failure. Increases in stresses up to 159% in the ruminant type of chewing compared with the cutter type are highlighted. An aggravating factor that can lead to implant failure is bruxism that tangentially stresses the implant leading to the concentration of forces at the abutment-implant junction. Conclusions regarding the decrease of stresses at bone-implant junction with up to 23% by a corresponding increase of the implant diameter by 25% are also issued.
No other man in history has influenced his era as decisively as Napoleon Bonaparte did. His life was that of an exceptionally gifted man, who knew how to make the most of all the opportunities offered by history. In this paper, we will approach the problem of dentistry, during the period when France was managed by the exceptional statesman, Napoleon Bonaparte, presenting in the second part of this material, the biographies of some personalities of French dentistry from that period.
Purpose of the study: The aim of the study is to assess the influence of surface conditioning of fiberglass posts through etching and sandblasting, on retention to root canal. Material and method: 30 maxillary single root teeth were endodontic treated and were sectioned at 2 mm from enamel-dentine junction. After root canal instrumentation, fiberglass posts with same length were adhesively cemented. Tooth-post assembly mounted in a special conformer, was loaded by a universal testing machine, recording the force and displacement at which the post is dislocated first. Data has been statistically analyzed. Results: In the experimental group where posts were acid engraved samples yielded on greater forces (117.75 N) then group with sand blasted posts (101 N), but lower than the control group (129.36 N). Differences between the groups analyzed using ANOVA test, are not statistically significant. Conclusions: The displacements phenomenon at the interfaces dentin-adhesive-post is not significantly influenced by the type of treatment of the posts surface, compared to the control group.
Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic brought a burden and represented a challenge for the Romanian medical system. This study explored the consequences that COVID epidemiological measures had on the quality of the mental health care provided to hospitalized patients in a regional psychiatric hospital in Romania. Materials and methods: Both patient-level and hospital-level indicators were considered for this comparative retrospective study. On the one hand, we extracted patient-level indicators, such as sociodemographics, diagnosis, admission, and discharge dates for 7026 hospitalized patients (3701 women, average age = 55.14) from hospital records. On the other hand, for the hospital-level indicators, we included indicators referring to the aggregated concept of mental health services, such as case mix index, length of stay, bed occupancy rate and patients’ degree of satisfaction. Data extracted covered a period of two years (1 March 2019–28 February 2021) before and during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: We found that, compared to the pre-pandemic period, the pandemic period was marked by a drastic decrease in hospitalized patient admissions, coupled with an increase in emergency-based admissions. Other management indicators, such as the case mix index, the number of cases contracted/performed, and the degree of patient satisfaction, decreased. In contrast, the average length of stay and bed occupancy rate increased. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the first year, raised multiple difficult issues for the management of psychiatric hospitals. It imposed an application of strict measures designed to face these new and unprecedented challenges. Our findings offer a detailed snapshot of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of its impact on mental health services and suggest some future directions. Implications for hospital management are discussed. Keywords: hospital management; COVID-19 pandemic; hospitalized patients; psychiatric hospital; mental health services.
