O presente artigo discute as relações entre religião, educação, política e espaço público, e tem como objetivo compreender de que forma a concepção de escola e de educação veiculada pelo Programa "Escola sem Partido” o associa a perspectivas religiosas fundamentalistas, a ponto de grupos religiosos conservadores se converterem em defensores de um programa que se auto-declara não-religioso. Para analisarmos esse contexto e alguns elementos desse projeto, partiremos da noção de guerra de cultura ou conflito cultural elaborada pelo sociólogo americano James Davison Hunter. Tais conceitos constituem, nessa análise, “lentes” teóricas pelas quais procuramos analisar o programa ESP, e por meio das quais também estabelecemos um diálogo com textos e estudiosos do fundamentalismo cristão de cunho reconstrucionista nos Estados Unidos. Nosso intuito nesse estudo é apresentar elementos que nos permitam compreender de que forma a educação se constitui uma importante agenda religioso-política no Brasil contemporâneo, figurando como um dos mais disputados campos na atual polarização ético-moral e política.
O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar uma análise do projeto de lei que institui o programa Escola sem Partido (PL 246/2019), no intuito de indicar como e porque tal projeto se constitui um obstáculo para a ação pedagógica no âmbito do componente curricular Ensino Religioso na escola básica, consolidando-se assim um entrave para a formação integral conforme estabelecido pela Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação. Para tal análise, mobilizamos categorias do campo do direito internacional, como decisões da Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos e o Protocolo de San Salvador, assim como categorias e referenciais teóricos do campo da Ciência da Religião. Primeiramente, procuramos examinar em que medida a Convenção Americana de Direitos Humanos — referenciada no projeto como um argumento central em defesa do direito dos pais de que seus filhos recebam na escola a formação religiosa e moral conforme àquela cultivada por suas famílias no âmbito privado — provê juridicamente os princípios do PL246/2019. Em um segundo momento, abordamos a noção de religião que subjaz ao projeto e os impedimentos decorrentes de uma perspectiva da religião restrita à crença e à prática, desprezando sua dimensão cultural. Nesse sentido, procuramos apontar como a referida compreensão de religião induz a um entendimento fragmentado e equivocada da Convenção, o que além de colocar em xeque direitos humanos fundamentais, coloca em suspenso também preceitos basilares da educação no Brasil.
Este artigo apresenta uma perspectiva, entre tantas outras possíveis, de compreender o significado do ‘religioso’ atual a partir da sua presença no espaço público. Este estudo é feito por meio da análise de um vídeo produzido e veiculado durante a campanha eleitoral de 2010, no qual o pastor Paschoal Piragine Júnior, na época presidente da Convenção Batista Brasileira, posicionava-se contra o que ele chama de “iniquidade institucionalizada” e convocando os batistas a não votarem no Partido dos Trabalhadores no referido pleito. Para analisarmos o pronunciamento do pastor, partimos da noção de conflito cultural ou guerra de cultura elaborada pelo sociólogo norte-americano James Hunter. Tais conceitos constituem nesta análise “lentes” teóricas, pelas quais procuramos ver o objeto de estudo, e por meio das quais também estabelecemos um diálogo com outros autores e textos que analisam a presença da religião no espaço público brasileiro contemporâneo num contexto de intolerância e conflito religioso.
