Geburtstag gewidmetDer Lehrbuchmechanismus der trans-Bromierung von Alkenen und Alkinen über ein mehr oder weniger symmetrisches cyclisches Bromonium-Ion trifft nicht immer zu -schon beim Stammsystem, der Reaktion von Brom mit Ethylen, ist der Mechanismus vermutlich falsch. Hochreines Brom reagiert mit Ethylen in wasserfreiem Dichlormethan bei Raumtemperatur extrem langsam. Entsprechende Lösungen sind bis zu mehrere Tage vollkommen stabil. Erst Lichteinwirkung oder Spuren von Säuren initiieren die Reaktion zum 1,2-Dibromethan, die dann autokatalytisch sehr schnell (t1 = 2 < 2 min) abläuft. [1][2][3] Die stereoselektive anti-Addition von Brom an Alkene und Alkine verläuft nach dem allgemein anerkannten Mechanismus über ein cyclisches Bromonium-Ion (A) bzw. ein Bromirenium-Ion (A'; Schema 1). Abweichungen von der trans-Selektivität werden mit dem Auftreten offenkettiger kationischer Zwischenstufen (B, B') erklärt. [4,5] Polare Lö-sungsmittel und Kationen-stabilisierende Substituenten begünstigen die stereounspezifische Reaktion durch Stabilisierung des b-Bromcarbenium-Ions B bzw. des b-BromvinylKations B'. Im Extremfall führt dies bis zu einem cis/transVerhältnis von 1:1. Das syn-Addukt entsteht nach einer Rotation der Bromalkylgruppe oder durch einen Vorderseitenangriff an das trigonal planare Kation. Bei Alkinen ist lediglich eine kleine Umorientierung der Gegenionen Br
Seit Wilke et al. 1973 Tris(ethylen)nickel(0) 1 synthetisierten, [1] wurden die Strukturen dieses ersten bin‰ren Metall-Ethylen-Komplexes [2] und anderer Nickel(0)-Alken-und -Alkin-Komplexe [3] ausf¸hrlich untersucht. Einer der Haupt-gr¸nde f¸r das Interesse an diesen Verbindungen ist die Tatsache, dass Ni 0 -Komplexe die pr‰parativ und industriell wichtige Cyclooligomerisierung von Alkenen und Alkinen katalysieren. [4,5] Trotz eingehender Studien [6] sind wir immer noch weit davon entfernt, alle mechanistischen Details dieser Reaktionen zu verstehen.Im Prinzip sind zwei trigonal koordinierte, hoch symmetrische Strukturen von Tris(ethylen)nickel(0) mˆglich, eine mit dem Nickelatom und allen Kohlenstoffatomen in einer Ebene (1 a) und eine andere, bei der die Doppelbindungen senkrecht zur Koordinationsebene stehen (1 b; siehe Abbildung 1). Erstere (1 a) wurde von Hoffmann and Rˆsch πplanar™ und letztere (1 b) πupright™ genannt. [7] Obwohl Wilke et al. unmittelbar nach der Synthese die richtige Struktur 1 a vorgeschlagen hatten, ist es in keiner Weise trivial, die Bevorzugung der πplanaren™ Struktur zu erkl‰ren. Der reine Kupfercluster lˆst sich bei einem Potential unterhalb des Auflˆsungspotentials f¸r die Volumenphase auf, da seine gro˚e Oberfl‰che ihn weniger stabil macht. Dagegen hat der Kupfer-Gold-Cluster bei einem Elektrodenpotential von f 0.05 V noch etwa ein Drittel seiner urspr¸nglichen Grˆ˚e (Abbildung 3 a), und auch bei hˆheren Potentialen lˆst er sich nur langsam auf. Interessanterweise spiegeln unsere Simulationen den Befund von Kolb et al. [2] wieder, dass sich der Cluster Schicht um Schicht auflˆst.Unsere Simulationen legen also nahe, dass die Stabilit‰t der Cluster durch die Bildung einer Kupfer-Gold-Legierung verursacht wird. Diese Hypothese erkl‰rt auch, warum Kupfer auf Silber keine stabilen Cluster bildet: Kupfer und Silber mischen sich nicht bei Temperaturen unterhalb von 600 K und bilden deswegen auch keine stabilen Cu-Ag-Cluster. Tats‰chlich erhielten wir bei einigen Probe-Simulationen f¸r die Abscheidung von Kupfer auf Ag(111) niemals stabile Cluster. Demgegen¸ber mischen sich Palladium und Gold bei Raumtemperatur; [8] die Tatsache, dass sich stabile Cluster auf Au(111) bilden, wenn Palladium mit der Spitze eines RTM abgeschieden wird, st¸tzt also unsere Hypothese. Wir nehmen an, dass diese Cluster Palladium-und Gold-Atome enthalten.Es scheint also, dass diese elektrochemische Methode im Allgemeinen nur dann stabile Cluster liefert, wenn das Substrat und das abgeschiedene Metall eine stabile Legierung bilden. Eigentlich kann es auch gar nicht anders sein: Bei Potentialen oberhalb des Gleichgewichts...
