Introduction in this modern era and in the speedily changing atmosphere of health care, health care practice and patients has affected by many factors. These days, in many states the patient rights has become the pivot of the national attention in medical culture. Awareness of health rights is important to achieve the best level of health care. The study was aimed to assess the awareness of hospitalized patients about the rights. Methods a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in different wards of public sector tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar, over four months duration from February to May 2018. Hospitalized patients who were being admitted for at least two days from 17 to 70 years of age were included. Before asking the patients to answer the questionnaire, consent from the patients was acquired. A self-administered semi-structured questionnaire was adopted. Data analysis was done through SPSS version 22. Results among 200 participants 46% were male and 54% were female, 35.5% were from urban and 64.5% were from rural areas. Patients were less aware of their individual rights, like 65.5% of clients were not cognizant of the patients special bill of rights while 59% were aware to receive non-discriminatory and timely health services. Conclusion most of the clients were not conscious of their individual health rights. About half of the sample knew that the patients will receive respectful care and the patients will receive care in clean and medically safe environment.
Introduction: Though mental disorders have remained global issues, their relationship with stressful life styles and occupations are a modern phenomenon. Anxiety and depression can become permanent components of personality, thereby affecting productivity and social activities. Objective: To determine the stress, anxiety and depression levels among nurses working at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Medical Teaching Institution, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Materials & Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 100 nurses by using convenient sampling technique at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Medical Teaching Institution, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, over 6 months duration from March 2020 to August 2020. A valid, reliable and adopted DASS-21 Scale was used for data collection. The data were analyzed for descriptive statistics by SPSS version 22.0. Results: Among all participants, 76% were female and 26% were male and have experience from 6 months to 20 years. More than half of the participants were highly affected by stress, anxiety and depression, and significant associations have been found between demographic variables, stress, anxiety and depression. The mean score of Stress, Anxiety and Depression was 16.74, 14.12 and 16.44 respectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, health care settings should provide their employees a respectful, culture sensitive and supportive environment to single female staff where they feel safe and happy. Lastly, cross-sectional surveys should be conducted on these psychological problems to find out the key factors behind them. Keywords: Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Nurses, Tertiary Care Hospital
OBJECTIVES To assess the thalassemic children’s parents’ knowledge level regarding Thalassemia. METHODOLOGY A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in two tertiary care hospitals in Peshawar from February 2019 to July 2019. Informed consent was taken from 100 participants before data collection. A validated and reliable questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. SPSS version 22.0 was used for data analysis. RESULTS Out of 100 participants, the majority (n=77) were female. The majority were unemployed and 47 were illiterate. Most of the parents had poor knowledge regarding thalassemia 28% were unaware that patients who have thalassemia are anemic, 89% had the opinion that thalassemia cannot be treated only with medications, 78% had replied to thalassemia cannot be treated with surgery and 56% were not aware that chelation is a treatment modality for thalassemia. The mean knowledge score of the total participants regarding thalassemia was 16.65±2.94. CONCLUSION Based on findings there is ample need for attention by the government and health care providers to provide education to the masses and must have to launch an awareness campaign about thalassemia. Furthermore, government and health care providers and society may encourage the preventive program to decrease the prevalence of this disease in Pakistan.
