The development of new classes of dental materials determined the apparition of reinforced polymers, as BioHPP and Trinia, used for core in non-metallic prosthetic restorations, including in implants non-metallic superstructure. The purpose of the study was to present the results of the comparative clinical trials referring to the use of BioHPP and Trinia resins as core in fixed prosthetic rehabilitation. The researches were performed on 33 patients in which we realized 71 fixed prosthetic restorations. According to the six evaluation criteria used in research, we conducted biannual monitoring meetings over two and half years period for registrations of comparative results in the use of these two reinforced polymers as core. The results of the study demonstrated that both type of these materials exhibit a certain degree of elasticity and presents many advantages, therefore these represent a beneficial acquisition in patients oral health.
The intraosseous implants are the most used dental implants. The development of new classes of dental biomaterials determined the apparition of Trinia, a Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) reinforced polymer, used for core in non-metallic prosthetic restorations, including implants superstructure. The aim of the study was to present the obtained results in the use of Trinia polymer as non-metallic core on the abutments of Bicon implants. 35 patients were selected, 19 females and 16 males, aged between 31 and 60 years. After 18 months of results monitoring, we ascertained that Trinia reinforced polymer had a very good behavior in the oral cavity, and the patients did not complain about inconveniences due to the oral rehabilitation with this biopolymer.
Dental sealants are important components of preventive dentistry. The aim of this clinical trial was to compare the effectiveness of an unfilled resin-based sealant and a carbomer-based dental sealant. 42 child patients with completely erupted inferior first molars and with diagnosed bruxism were included in the study. At 2 weeks, respectively 6, 12 and 18 months were evaluated the effectiveness of sealants after marginal deterioration, retention and the presence of caries. The results of the trial showed that unfilled resin-based sealant presented fewer modifications.
The prevalence of dental caries in Romania remains high. The objective of this study is to analyse the link between dental caries, salivary pH and buffer capacity and the nutritional status in children. This cross-sectional study used a sample of 162 children, between the ages of 6 and 12 years, from Mures County, Romania. The prevalence of caries was measured using the decayed, missing, and filled teeth index for deciduous teeth (dmft index) and for permanent teeth (DMFT index). In addition, height and weight were assessed for each subject, and their body mass index (BMI) was calculated. The buffer capacity and the pH was determined after collecting stimulated saliva. Undernourished children presented a higher caries incidence and a lower salivary pH value compared with the normal weight and overweight children. Further longitudinal studies should be conducted in order to study the relationship between BMI, pH, dental caries and salivary buffer capacity. Future preventive programs should include nutrition control in order to prevent both the apparition of dental caries and of malnutrition.
Background and objectives: Gum disease represents the condition due to the dental plaque and dental calculus deposition on the surfaces of the teeth, followed by ulterior destruction of the periodontal tissues through the host reaction to the pathogenic microorganisms. The aim of study was to present aspects regarding the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as an adjuvant therapy for the treatment of periodontal disease, started from the already certified benefits of HBOT in the general medicine specialties. Materials and methods: The participant patients in this study (71) required and benefited from specific periodontal disease treatments. All patients included in the trial benefited from the conventional therapy of full-mouth scaling and root planing (SRP) within 24 h. HBOT was performed on the patients of the first group (31), in 20 sessions, of one hour. The patients of the control group (40) did not benefit from HBO therapy. Results: At the end of study, the included patients in HBOT group presented significantly better values of oral health index (OHI-S), sulcus bleeding index (SBI), dental mobility (DM), and periodontal pocket depth (PD) than the patients of the control group. Conclusions: HBOT had beneficial effects on the oral and general health of all patients, because in addition to the positive results in periodontal therapy, some individual symptoms of the patients diminished or disappeared upon completion of this adjuvant therapy.
