A reflexive article about risk factors and prostate cancer prevention actions is presented to contribute to the approach of men, especially during nursing consultation. Increasing age, ethnical origin and heredity are potential risk factors. Low-fat diet and a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and others, are related as capable of potentially minimize the risks. Finasteride, a drug that is inhibitor of 5 alpha-reductase has been studied as a risk reducer. Investigating the disease by measuring levels of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) and digital rectal examination is also a recommended action. However, further scientific evidences about these factors are being sough. The approach of men in nursing consultation may contribute to the identification of risk factors, signs and symptoms of possible changes.
This study aimed to identify the applicability of NIC priority interventions to the diagnosis ineffective Airway clearance in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), where the nursing process and NANDA's nursing diagnoses are adopted. The method used was the case study. The nurses spontaneously listed the activities they developed and analyzed whether they performed additional activities according to NIC taxonomy. The authors observed that in the PICU were performed 84.6% of the Respiratory Monitoring activities, 80.0% of the Airway Management intervention activities and 36.4% of the activities regarding Cough Enhancement intervention. The conclusion was that the majority of the interventions studied are performed in the PICU and that NIC can give nurses the opportunity to identify potentialities and needs as well as to improve the quality of the care delivered.
This is a bibliographical study that has as its aim characterizing the Brazilian scientific production on the "Patient Care System" and visualizing its trends. A retrospective bibliogra-phical study (1990-2002) was carried out taking into consideration the items: date, title of the journal, type of research and approach of the publication. Production average was 13.4 publications/ year and articles were distributed among 23 journals, with a majority of them dealing with hospitals (63.2%). Cardiology was the theme of 17.6% of the articles, and 78.6% of them were focused on the implementation, development and evaluation of SAE models. NANDA taxonomy was men-tioned in 40.2% of the production, and Wanda Horta in 40.5%. There are still some blanks in this area of knowledge, but the increasing availability of the scientific production on this subject may help professionals in the implementation of the patient care system.
Objective: to describe the theoretical construction process of nursing process support documents in COVID-19 care scenarios. Methods: an experience report of the joint activity of the Brazilian Nursing Process Research Network (Rede de Pesquisa em Processo de Enfermagem) composed of Higher Education and Health Institution researchers in Brazil. Results: five instruments were organized collectively, involving the elements of nursing practice (nursing diagnoses, outcomes and interventions) in assistance for community; for patients (with suspected or mild, moderate, and critical COVID-19 and residents in Nursing Homes); for nursing workers’ health support, also subsidizing registration and documentation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Final considerations: valuing the phenomena manifested by families/communities, patients and health professionals is essential for early detection, intervention, and prevention of diseases.
This study aimed at reviewing the knowledge produced about the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) available in the scientific literature from January 1980 to January 2004. NIC is a taxonomy with activities performed by nurses. Authors searched Lilacs and Medline databases, materials at the Center for Nursing Classification-University of Iowa College of Nursing and a doctoral dissertation obtained from a private library. The works found referred to the application of NIC to practice, the languages used in information systems, the use of NIC in these systems and the presentation, construction, development and validation of a taxonomy, among others. Authors concluded that there are several possibilities related to the production of knowledge on NIC in Brazil and that it is necessary to encourage studies on this taxonomy, raising questions and generating new knowledge to contribute to the improvement of Brazilian Nursing.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
