O trabalho descreve historicamente aspectos da evolução do diagnóstico, tratamento e controle da hanseníase na Antiguidade (300 anos a.C. até o século 18). Aborda desde o seu aparecimento na Europa até a sua institucionalização, apresentando o cenário onde ela se apresentava, as condições de disseminação, as dificuldades e tentativas de tratamento e controle, o envolvimento e as interferências do cristianismo, a preocupação dos profissionais da área da saúde diante dos poucos resultados em relação aos tratamentos adotados, que compreendiam desde a aplicação de cataplasmas de lama, sangue e ervas, até a extirpação dos nódulos e sangrias, culminando com o isolamento dos doentes em leprosários. Além disso, evidencia a diminuição do número de casos como resposta ao isolamento, dando início ao fim da epidemia e desaparecendo em alguns países. Aborda também as ações de controle e tratamento da doença no Brasil e a (des)preocupação das autoridades e profissionais médicos até a inclusão de ações e normas de controle pelo poder público instituídas por Oswaldo Cruz.
A criação da Política Nacional de Educação Permanente em Saúde (PNEPS) amplia a possibilidade dos trabalhadores de incrementar melhorias nas intervenções realizadas na comunidade, como também na equipe de trabalho. O objetivo do estudo é investigar entre as atividades dos trabalhadores da saúde aquelas relacionadas à PNEPS se as atividades desenvolvidas têm relação com as ações da Educação Permanente em Saúde (EPS) e se os trabalhadores de saúde relacionam suas atividades com a política de EPS. Trata-se de um estudo de cunho qualitativo, envolvendo 113 trabalhadores da saúde dos 13 municípios pertencentes à 13ª Coordenadoria Regional de Saúde - RS. Para a coleta de dados utilizou-se um questionário que permitiu a expressão livre sobre os temas abordados. O método de análise utilizado foi a análise de conteúdo, em que emergiram quatro categorias: atividades de EPS desenvolvidas pelos trabalhadores, EPS como estratégia facilitadora do processo de trabalho, dificuldades no cotidiano dos trabalhadores e sua relação com a necessidade de EPS e EPS como proposta de aprimoramento do processo de trabalho. Constatou-se, que os trabalhadores não identificam ações de EPS nas suas atividades diárias voltadas principalmente à especificidade profissional. As capacitações foram citadas como fator facilitador para o processo de trabalho e a falta destas, como dificultador. Conclui-se que há lacunas importantes na implantação dessa política, principalmente com a utilização de metodologias diferenciadas, visando à integralidade, respeitando as necessidades de trabalhadores, permitindo-lhes autonomia, imprescindível para melhorar a atuação na Atenção Básica de Saúde.
Tendo em vista que a utilização de práticas complementares na Enfermagem ainda é pouco discutida, esse trabalho objetivou investigar quem são atualmente os enfermeiros do Rio Grande do Sul, especializados em alguma terapia integrativa e quais são as utilizadas por eles em suas práticas profissionais e/ou pessoais. Estudo exploratório descritivo de caráter qualitativo realizado com cinco enfermeiros registrados no Conselho Regional de Enfermagem – COREN/RS e com algum envolvimento junto a Associação Brasileira de Terapias Naturais em Enfermagem – ABRATEN. A análise dos questionários, respondidos pelos sujeitos da pesquisa, demonstraram uma variedade de modalidades de práticas que são possibilidades de cuidados utilizados pela Enfermagem junto à equipe, aos pacientes e à comunidade. A falta de disciplinas que abordem essa área nos currículos dos cursos de Enfermagem e a divulgação dessas experiências positivas foram relatadas por esses profissionais que hoje se empenham no estudo das práticas complementares.
