Este ensaio traz uma análise do filme Crimes e Pecados (1989) do cineasta Woody Allen que enfatiza suas reflexões tanto sobre a situa ção do cinema independente no final dos anos 80 nos Estados Unidos quanto sobre as condições de possibilidade de sua própria carreira.
http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/2175-8026.2017v70n1p161O artigo retoma o histórico das adaptações cinematográficas do romance Uma Tragédia Americana (1925), de Theodore Dreiser, recuperando as discussões sobre a cena do afogamento. Os estudos de Sergei Eisenstein sobre o uso do monólogo interior no cinema e o comentário de Bertolt Brecht a respeito da trilha sonora na adaptação do romance de Dreiser oferecem importante ponto de entrada para a análise do filme Match Point (2005), de Woody Allen. Em Match Point, o uso da trilha sonora, notadamente a colagem com a ópera Otelo (1887), de Giuseppe Verdi, permite que o espectador reflita sobre as possibilidades narrativas da adaptação para o cinema.

AbstractThe aim of this dissertation is to understand the role of the contemporary subject in the film Match Point (2005), by Woody Allen. In Allen's career, this film represents the moment of a sort of exile. Due to funding problems in the United States, the New-Yorker director goes to Europe. In the center of financial capitalism, an Irishman joins the British elite. The protagonist combines the social values of entrepreneurship in a historical moment that precedes the global financial crisis in 2008.
