A cúrcuma (Curcuma longa) é usada como aditivo e corante na indústria de alimentos, por possuir excelentes propriedades biológicas. O objetivo do trabalho foi comparar as atividades antioxidante, antimicrobiana e teor de compostos fenólicos totais dos extratos obtidos de cúrcuma em pó (comercializada) e do rizoma da cúrcuma in natura. A extração foi feita em Soxhlet utilizando etanol 95% por um período de seis horas e o rendimento obtido foi 5,25 e 3,42% de massa para o extrato de cúrcuma em pó e rizoma da cúrcuma in natura, respectivamente. A atividade antioxidante foi avaliada pelo método de captura de radicais livres (DPPH•), o teor de compostos fenólicos totais pelo teste de Folin-Ciocalteu. A concentração inibitória mínima dos extratos foi determinada para quatro bactérias, sendo duas Gram-positivas (Listeria monocytogenes e Staphylococcus aureus) e duas Gram-negativas (Salmonella choleraesuis e Escherichia coli). O extrato em pó apresentou maior teor de compostos fenólicos totais (30,4 mg EAG/100g) e menor IC50 (0,068 mg/mL) quando comparando com o extrato do rizoma in natura (28,0 mg EAG/100g e 0,083 mg/mL de IC50, respectivamente). Na concentração inibitória mínima as duas amostras mostram resultados satisfatórios para Salmonella choleraesuis e o extrato da cúrcuma em pó para Staphylococcus aureus.
O carcinoma, tumor maligno, pode conter arranjos celulares em ninhos, cordões e/ou ilhas de células epiteliais, sendo invasivo, com elevado potencial metastático. As neoplasias podem ser oriundas de alterações genéticas hereditárias ou até mesmo de causas químicas, físicas (radiação) ou infecciosas, e se farão presentes em todas as células do organismo. Sendo geralmente diagnosticadas no post mortem, o aparecimento de tumores em bovinos não é considerado um achado corriqueiro, pois acredita-se que a maioria deles não atinge uma idade suficiente para predispor ao desenvolvimento de neoplasias. O objetivo do trabalho foi relatar um achado de necropsia em uma vaca da raça Holandesa preta e branca, com 7 anos de idade e 200 dias de lactação. Foi realizada a anamnese do animal na propriedade rural e após relatos do produtor procedeu-se avaliação clínica, realizando-se a palpação retal, que com prognóstico desfavorável, definiu-se a eutanásia do animal. Foi realizada necropsia e foram coletados fragmentos da glândula mamária, linfonodos mesentéricos, ilíacos e dos rins. O diagnóstico de carcinoma indiferenciado metastático foi confirmado através de exame macroscópico e microscópico. Estas neoplasias são uma das principais causas de descarte precoce de bovinos.
O objetivo geral desta pesquisa é avaliar a eficácia “in vitro” de diferentes concentrações de alho desidratado (Attack Plus®), para o controle de teleóginas de Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. O alho desidratado (Attack Plus®) foi testado “in vitro” utilizando quatro grupos de teleóginas, em quadruplicata, contendo o grupo controle e os grupos com concentrações do alho desidratado igual a 0,1, 0,5 e 1%(m/v). As teleóginas do grupo controle foram imersas durante 5 min em 15 mL de água destilada e 5 mL adjuvante (óleo mineral), enquanto as demais concentrações foram imersas durante 5 min em 20 mL de uma solução contendo 15 mL água destilada, 5 mL de adjuvante e alho desidratado em suas respectivas concentrações. Após a imersão, as teleóginas foram secas em papel toalha e fixadas por meio de fita adesiva em placas de Petry, previamente identificadas e colocadas em uma estufa climatizada, regulada à temperatura de 27 ºC, umidade relativa superior a 80% por 26 dias para observar a oviposição. Após, o conteúdo da oviposição, foi pesado na sua totalidade e 0,3 g desse conteúdo foi armazenado em tubos de ensaio, vedados com algodão hidrófilo e encaminhados novamente à estufa, sendo mantidos por 26 dias a fim de avaliar o percentual de eclodibilidade. Ao final dos tratamentos observou-se que a atuação do produto (Attack Plus®) apresentou ação favorável no controle de teleóginas, pois mesmo ocorrendo a ovipostura, não ocorreu eclosão dos ovos para todos os grupos estudados.
