Objetivo: Demostrar el efecto de la metodología de educación terapéutica en el control metabólico de las personas con diabetes mellitus (DM) que participaron en el Programa de Intervención Nutricional en Enfermedades Crónicas (PINEC), mediante la evaluación de variables bioquímicas, antropométricas y dietéticas. Métodos: El PINEC es una modalidad de atención nutricional grupal basado en la educación terapéutica. Este estudio descriptivo incluyó personas mayores de 20 años con DM que participaron en el PINEC del 2012 al 2016. El control metabólico se evaluó al inicio y final. Resultados: Completaron la intervención educativa 1,280 usuarios (85% de la población inicial), con edad promedio 53 ± 11 años; el 72% eran mujeres.
