PSYCHOLOGY AS A MEDIATOR IN THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG READERS AbstractThis text reports an activity performed by Psychology undergraduate students at College of Sciences and Languages, São Paulo State University, Assis campus, through an experience of mediation of a contact between young students and reading practice. It was performed in 2013-2014 in a social support entity. In order to this, historical-cultural psychology and Paulo Freire's pedagogy elements were chosen as theoretical references for practical activities: workshops that addressed an alternative method for reading compared to the traditional school model, making the understanding of this knowledge field possible through a group-interpersonal relationship. Results of this experience indicate that Psychology can contribute as a mediator in educational environments. It enhances the relationship with reading, an essential aspect of human culture. Furthermore, the importance for a psychologist to know the boundaries of traditional school practices is emphasized, as they have impaired critical formation for students so that they end up being not able to change this situation. LA PSICOLOGÍA COMO MEDIADORA EM LA FORMACIÓN DE JOVENS LECTORES ResumenEste texto expone el trabajo realizado por estudiantes de Psicología en la Facultad de Ciências y Letras Unesp/Assis, mediante la experiencia de acción mediadora del contacto de los adolescentes con la lectura ejecutada entre 2013 -2014 en una entidad social. Para eso, se optó por la Psicología Histórico-Cultural y por puntos de la pedagogía de Paulo Freire como referencias teóricas para las prácticas: talleres que abordaron la lectura de forma distinta al modelo de la escuela tradicional, estableciendo possible noción del campo de lo saber por médio de relación interpersonal grupal. Los resultados indican que la Psicología puede ayudar como mediadora en campos educativos mejorando el vinculo fundamental de la cultura humana que es la lectura. Por fin, reitera la importancia del psicólogo de conocer las limitaciones de las prácticas escolares tradicionales, que han comprometido con la formación crítica de los estudiantes con el fin de ayudar a cambiar esta situación.
