All sealers evaluated allowed bacterial leakage. The MTA-based sealers had the most leakage.
Staphylococcus aureus strains can be disseminated during dental treatment and occasionally lead to contamination and infection of patients and dentists. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and compare the number of S.aureus colonies isolated from the nose, hands and tongue of students and patients, as well as from the clinical environment, before and after dental treatment. Staphylococcus species were isolated from the tongue, nose and hands of 30 students and 30 patients and from the environment of a Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. The samples were incubated in SMA plates at 37o C for 48 hours. Results: The colonies that showed the presence of mannitol fermentation were collected as identification for Staphylococcus aureus, using CHROMagar and the coagulase test. The highest amount of S.aureus was found in the nose and tongue of children. In relation to dental students, more contamination was observed on gloved hands, followed by the tongue and hands without gloves, before clinical attendance. At the end of dental treatment, S. aureus colonies isolated from the gloved hands of students decreased significantly. Considering the clinical environment, the most contaminated areas were the auxiliary table and the storeroom, which was located at the center of the clinic. Conclusion: The dental clinic can be considered an environment for S. aureus cross-transmission. Preventative measures should be used to avoid the dissemination of pathogenic microorganisms.
The ultrasonic tip seems to be a promising tool for carious dentin cavity preparation.
Objective: To highlight the kind of leadership that encourages good relationships among staff and identify the communication ideal for a healthy interpersonal relationship among members of the nursing staff. Method: a qualitative approach, review the Virtual Health Library (VHL), six articles were selected for analysis, extracted from the databases BDENF, LILACS and SciELO. Fell into two categories: 1) Leadership: a key factor in good management, 2) Interpersonal: steps to a healthy environment. Results: There was a need for nurses' performance not only in bureaucratic activities of the institution, but part of teamwork, with greater emphasis on communication and relationships of its components. Conclusion: We conclude that the behavior of leaders, directly affects the attitude of their subordinates, and management strategies are key to good team performance, and provides better conditions in the workplace. Descriptors: Leadership, Management, Interpersonal relations, Nursing. A successful peritoneal dialysis program follows evidencebased practice guidelines. In this first article we review the current guidelines on catheter insertion and on prevention of catheterrelated infections, both subjects of extreme importance not only to initiate and also to maintain patients on peritoneal dialysis. The treatment of catheterrelated infections is not part of the purpose of this article.
Objective: To assess the influence of air abrasion tips and system operation modes on enamel cutting. Methods: Forty bovine teeth were abraded with the air abrasion system Mach 4.1 for 10 and 15 seconds, employing conventional and sonic tips of 0.45-mm inner diameter and a 90° angle, and 27.5-μm aluminum oxide at 5.51 bar air pressure in continuous and pulsed modes. The width and depth of the resulting cuts were measured in SEM.Results: The multivariate analysis of variances revealed that, compared to the sonic tip, the conventional tip produced shallower cuts independent of the operation mode and the application period. Conclusions: The cutting patterns observed in this study suggest that the pulsed mode produced deeper cuts when both the conventional and sonic tips were used, and that the sonic tip cut more dental tissue than the conventional one. Objectives:To evaluate the influence of the grain size coating and shaft angulation of ultrasonic and high-speed diamond burs on the dental cutting effectiveness.Materials and Methods:For the grain size evaluation, cavities were prepared on 40 incisors using high-speed (1092 and 1093F KG Sorensen®) and ultrasonic tips (8.2142 and 6.2142-CVDentus®). For the shaft angulation evaluation, cavities were prepared on 40 incisors using uniangulated (T1-CVDentus®) and biangulated (T1-A CVDentus®) ultrasonic tips. The cavities were bisected and examined at ×50 magnification. The width and depth of cavities were measured by Leica QWin software. Kruskal–Wallis non-parametric test was used for analysis. Results:The grain size did not affect the cutting effectiveness, but the high-speed burs promoted deeper and wider cavities than the ultrasonic tips. The shaft angulation did not affect the cutting effectiveness; both the angulated and biangulated tips had greater cutting efficiency in dentin than in enamel. Conclusions:Ultrasonic tips promoted more conservative preparations and seemed promising for cavity preparation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
