El objetivo de este estudio es conocer los efectos generados por una intervención del método Watsu en un grupo de 11 nadadores de competición (6 hombres y 5 mujeres), con edades comprendidas entre los 13 y los 21 años. Para la consecución de este objetivo, todos los participantes de este estudio recibieron 20 sesiones de método Watsu, durante 20 semanas. Las sesiones del método Watsu, fueron añadidas a la rutina de entrenamiento de los nadadores, sin que ello supusiera una alteración del trabajo inicialmente diseñado para los deportistas que participaron en la investigación. Para el análisis de los datos, se utilizaron instrumentos y procedimientos de carácter cuantitativo (ej. cuestionarios) y cualitativo (ej. diarios) durante todo el proceso de intervención. Los resultados demostraron que los participantes de esta investigación interpretaron que el método Watsu es una herramienta válida y necesaria para mejorar los aspectos físicos y psicológicos dentro y fuera del ambiente deportivo. En definitiva, se concluye que el método Watsu puede ayudar a mejorar el nivel de relajación, descanso y consciencia corporal de aquellos deportistas que se ven expuestos a un alto nivel de exigencia deportiva y/o de competición.
Este trabajo procuró a conocer el uso de métodos de relajación utilizados en deportistas. Se ha utilizado la revisión bibliográfica se basó en la búsqueda, análisis y interpretación de la literatura científica disponible sobre la relación entre las técnicas de relajación y el deporte de competición. El objetivo general del estudio ha sido identificar y analizar los posibles efectos de la relajación en los deportistas. Para ello, se examinaron los métodos utilizados y las evidencias de eficacia en el proceso de entrenamiento y/o competiciones y admitidos artículos que utilizaron instrumentos y procedimientos de carácter cuantitativo y cualitativo. Los resultados indican que técnicas de relajación posee en su concepción beneficios que son útiles no sólo al bienestar del atleta, sino que también ayuda en la recuperación a nivel físico y psicológico.
