ARCHITECTURAL STRATEGIES OF THERMAL COMFORT IN VERTICAL BUILDINGS ABSTRACTThis paper presents the results of an analysis of the architectural strategies for environmental comfort present in the architectural design of vertical buildings. The buildings were located in four (4) cities of Santa Catarina state (Blumenau, Florianópolis/São José, Joinville). The analysis was performed from promotional material published in newspapers ads and websites. The method focused on the evaluation of sixty--two (62) building architectural design based on the evaluation of environmental thermal comfort strategies related to solar control the openings, natural ventilation, daylight use and outdoor landscaping. The evaluation of this sample buildings architectural design enabled us to understand how is the architectural production in the three cities, with regard to environmental comfort in architectural design, fundamental aspect of architectural quality. Results show inadequacy in most analysis topics, particularly solar control in openings, revealing errors in architectural design.
