This research was about parents way in teaching politeness in their environment. The objectives of this research were (1) to examine parents’ perception about teaching language politeness to their children in a family environment;(2) to describe what patterns are implemented by parents in teaching language politeness to the children;(3) to find out the forms of language politeness taught to the children and (4) to describe the obstacles encountered by parents when they taught their children language politeness.Descriptive qualitative design was used in this research. The data were obtained by doing the interview and observation to the objects of research. The result revealed that all parents agreed about teaching language politeness to their children in a familay environment based on some reasons.First, famliy is the first place for children to learn about politeness. Second, teaching language politeness to children is one way to maintain our culture and third, teaching language politeness to the children can make them far from the dispute. Teaching language politeness to the children must be done through refraction, instruction, control, and modelling.
AbstrakArtikel Info Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat adanya pengaruh pendekatan open ended terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan soft skill mahasiswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen menggunakan desain nonequivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester satu pendidikan matematika UMSU tahun ajaran 2017/2018, dengan menggunakan dua kelas yang telah ditentukan. Kelas eksperimen mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan open ended, sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan metode konvensional. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes uraian, angket soft skill, lembar observasi dan pedoman interview. Kesimpulan diambil berdasarkan hasil pengolahan dan analasis data menggunakan uji T-test dengan bantuan program Microsoft Excel dan program SPSS 17. Hasil yang diperoleh bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan soft skill mahasiswa lebih baik dari kelas konvensional, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan open ended berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan soft skill mahasiswa.
The Use Of The Duolingo Guessing Game Application In Teaching Speaking Ability Toward 8th - Students. This study was aimed to analyze how students use the game application named Duolingo, as an English learning application, to evaluate its benefit to help students in learning English and to assess students' skills in speaking. The data for this research was collected by using post and pre-test methods in research techniques. The data source was students from SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan, focused on 8th grade by providing multiple-choice questions by using Duolingo Applications. The quantitative design was used in this study and the techniques for data analysis include (1) data collection procedures, (2) data analysis techniques, and (3) conclusions. Based on analysis findings, students provided improvements to English learning and they speak more smoothly with a better tone. However, learning English has a number of advantages, and since Duolingo is a form of multiple choice test so the students enjoy, and it help the problem of speaking and use repetition of words so the students can follow how to say or speak.
The objective of this research was to find out the effect of applying picture word inductive model (PWIM) on students' achievement in writing descriptive text.The method of research was the experimental research method. The population of this research was taken from the eight grade and the second year students of junior high school at MTs. Islamiyah Medan Jl.Suluh No. 71 D, Sidorejo Hilir, Medan Tembung, Medan, Sumatera Utara. at academic 2017/2018 with the total population were 84 students. The sample consisted of 30 students were taken by using purposive sampling. The classes were divided into one group, namely experimental group used in one-group pretest-posttest.Therefore, the research was taken one class as the experimental class.The experimental group was taught by applying picture word inductive model (PWIM). The instrument of research was written test (pretest-postest). The researcher were given treatment by PWIM strategy. The instrument of collecting data was written test which was given picture to make a descriptive text as the test items. The data analysis was using T-test. The result showed that the students mean in teaching descriptive text before taught applying Picture word inductive model (PWIM) is only 47.5 while the students mean in teaching descriptive text after the being taught applying picture word inductive model (PWIM) is 85.5 it was improved. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. with the t-test analysis that used by researcher, with the significant level 0.05. The result of the data showed that 5.71 > 2.04 with degree of freedom (df) = N-1 (30-1). The final hypothesis showed that Hₒ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. It proves that Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) significantly effect to the students' achievement in writing descriptive text.
The purpose of this study is (1) Is there an influence on the development of Adobe-Flash multimedia programs on the ability of students to improve vocabulary skills in English For Tourism courses ?. (2) What percentage of the influence of the development of multimedia programs on the ability of students to improve vocabulary skills in English For Tourism courses? This research is an experimental research. The program implementation technique for this research is a preliminary test used to measure students' vocabulary abilities of the material being taught while the final test is carried out to determine student learning outcomes after being treated using Multimedia-based Object-Oriented Programming (Adobe-Flash) learning methods in the eyes English for Tourism lecture.
