We present a case of Langerhans’ cell histiocytosis in a 40-year-old woman presenting with central diabetes insipidus and right ear pain. As this disease process is often clinically challenging, the presence of certain imaging findings should raise the possibility of this diagnosis. We review the pertinent imaging and correlate with histology and immunohistochemistry leading to the diagnosis.
Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts complications are most often divided into 2 broad categories: mechanical failure and infection. We report a case of a migrated VP shunt with subsequent development of a pseudocyst around the patient's breast implant, a rare complication. We review the literature of VP shunt complications, including the increasing number of reported breast-related complications, and discuss proposed mechanisms by which migration may occur. With the increase in patients with breast augmentation procedures, there is potential for an increase in the number of reported cases of VP shunt migration.
One of the rare complications of low-grade pancreatic neoplasms is fistulization into nearby structures. This often does not present clinically, but is incidentally identified in patients who have been imaged serially to monitor the progression of the disease. In this report, we present an uncommon complication of an intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, which developed a spontaneous gastropancreatic fistula in a patient who was conservatively managed. The clinical course, imaging features, and management of this case are discussed.
Oncocytoma, also known as oxyphilic adenoma or mitochondrioma of the parotid gland is a rare benign tumor constituting less than 1.5% of all parotid lesions. As there are no characteristic imaging findings, this lesion often poses a diagnostic and clinical challenge. We present a rare case of a parotid oncocytoma posing a diagnostic challenge in a 55-year-old woman presenting with a facial mass. We hope to bring awareness of this benign entity affecting the parotid gland.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
