Abordaremos a reflexão feita pela autora Kim-Gibson a partir de testemunhos orais das mulheres de origem étnica coreana, chinesa e japonesa que foram submetidas, pelo Exército Imperial Japonês, aos abusos e às explorações que culminaram por torná-las escravas sexuais. Em 1996, o relatório anexo à decisão, Radhika Coomaraswamy, então investigador da Comissão das Nações Unidas sobre Direitos Humanos, concluiu que o Japão deveria assumir suas responsabilidades legais, identificar e punir os responsáveis pela escravidão sexual, indenizar as vitimas, pedir perdão formal aos sobreviventes e divulgar aos seus estudantes sobre esse ato desumano. A partir deste trabalho Kim-Gibson apresenta o referido crime de guerra, cometido durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, regatando o passado a partir da memória e o grande percurso, na atualidade, que ainda têm de se trilhado para se cumpram às determinações da ONU.
