Esta investigación analizó el comportamiento de los efectos de diferentes enraizantes y sustratos en la reproducción asexual y desarrollo de plántulas de ficus (Ficus benjamina). El estudio se realizó en el vivero comercial, ubicado en el cantón El Triunfo, provincia Guayas, Ecuador. Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con arreglo bifactorial 2x4, con 4 repeticiones. Se evaluaron las siguientes variables: prendimiento, vigor de plantas, emisión de brotes, longitud de raíces y peso de raíces a los 60 días después de la siembra. Se utilizaron diferentes tratamientos con sustratos a base de arena de río, hojarasca de cacao y tierra amarilla, en los cuales se evaluó la efectividad de diferentes combinaciones de gel de aloe y agua de coco, como enraizantes, frente a una formulación comercial del regulador fisiológico ácido naftalacético (ANA). El mejor tratamiento para enraizamiento y propagación fue tierra amarilla + cascarilla de arroz + gel de aloe, cuyo porcentaje de prendimiento alcanzó 54,17% y 1,95 brotes, superando a la hormona comercial, que llegó a un prendimiento de 41,67% y 1,15 brotes. Para determinar el efecto económico de los tratamientos, se utilizó como base el precio de vivero de una planta de ficus ($1,25 USD) y 1000 esquejes propagados como referencia. Así pudo determinarse que el sustrato a base de tierra amarilla + cascarilla de arroz + gel de aloe obtuvo una utilidad de $165,10 USD con una relación beneficio/costo igual a $1,41; superando al uso de la hormona comercial en la que la utilidad fue $-195,67 con una relación beneficio/costo de $0,52. Los resultados indican que la combinación de tierra amarilla y cascarilla de arroz como sustratos y gel de sábila como enraizante natural, constituyen una alternativa a la hormona comercial para la propagación de esquejes de ficus en viveros.
Moniliophthora roreri es el causante de grandes pérdidas económicas en el sector cacaotero ecuatoriano. La poda de las ramas y el uso de biofungicidas viene puesto a consideración de los agricultores como método de control, sin embargo, se desconoce la efectividad de los mismos cuando se combinan. Así la presente investigación determinó la mejor forma de control de la moniliasis mediante 4 tratamientos en la provincia del Cañar; T1: Bacillus sp +poda; T2: Trichoderma sp+ poda; T3: Mancozeb; T4: Testigo con solo poda. Pese a las diferencias que se mostraron para las variables incidencia, número de flores y pepinos sanos entre los tratamientos, se corrobora que la aplicación de cualquier tipo de fungicida disminuye el daño ocasionado con el hongo y que la poda por sí sola es la menos eficiente. Tal cual lo mostró la variable rendimiento, misma que no presentó diferencias estadísticas entre el tratamiento 1,2 y Sin embargo el análisis económico arrojó como el de mayor rentabilidad al T1 Bacillus sp +poda con una relación beneficio costo de 1,29 dólares con una aplicación de 1,5 l ha-1.
La investigación consistió en medir el efecto de Trichoderma harzianum en el control del mildiu (Pseudoperonospora cubensis) del pepino (Cucumis sativus L.). Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar (DBCA) con 5 tratamientos y 4 repeticiones en el sector Vainillo del cantón El Triunfo, provincia del Guayas, Ecuador. Las variables analizadas fueron: el porcentaje de infección de mildiu, eficacia de los tratamientos, longitud del fruto (cm), diámetro de fruto (cm), frutos por planta, rendimiento (kg por planta) y análisis económico. Realizado el ensayo se pudo constatar la presencia de la enfermedad del mildiu, obteniendo el mayor porcentaje de eficacia (84,4%) en el control con el tratamiento de Benomyl 50 WP,- 400 g.ha-1 y el tratamiento de Tricho D.- 500 g.ha-1 con una eficacia de 84,24%. Mediante la relación beneficio-costo (RBC) obtuvieron los mejores resultados el tratamiento de Benomyl 50 WP,- 400 g.ha-1 con una RBC de 1,53 y el tratamiento de Tricho D.- 500 g.ha-1 con una RBC 1,50. Se recomienda aplicar T. harzianum en dosis de 500 g.ha-1para el control del mildiu en el cultivo de pepino.
Las especies de guabo Inga edulis e I. vera son ampliamente utilizadas en sistemas agroforestales. Este estudio compara sus indicadores de desarrollo fenológico, aporte de minerales y presencia de organismos benéficos en su entorno de influencia, mediante un diseño de bloques completamente al azar (DBCA) con tres tratamientos y seis repeticiones. I. edulis tiene crecimiento polinomial más promisorio, con 5.79 m de altura, diámetro altura de pecho (DAP) de 0.075 m y 31.66 ramas con un diámetro de sombra de 5.94 m, superando a I. vera que alcanza 4.74 m de altura, DAP de 0.061 m y 14.33 ramas con sombra diametral de 4.79 m. Ambas especies difieren en su aporte de macronutrientes al suelo, superando I. vera en NH4, K y Mg, mientras que I. edulis realiza un mayor aporte de P y Ca. El contenido mineral foliar también difiere, superando I. edulis en NH4, P y Mg foliares, no obstante, I. vera contiene mayor K y Ca foliares. En la hojarasca, I. edulis posee 3.13% N, mientras que I. vera 2,53% N. La fauna asociada a estas especies se relaciona con la presencia de lombrices de tierra (Lumbricus terrestres) en el área del subsuelo con influencia de la raíz, existiendo mayor promedio de individuos por árbol en I. edulis (22.6) que en I. vera (14.9). Sin embargo, en I. vera existe mayor población de avispas Polistes dominula (4.6) y Vespula vulgaris (10.3), con relación a I. edulis, que alcanza 2.7 y 5.2 individuos por árbol, respectivamente.
Introducción. Se buscó optimizar los sistemas de riego para el consumo de agua en el pimiento (Capsicum annuum L.), cultivo importante en la industria alimenticia, cuyos híbridos superan la productividad de las variedades comerciales. A diferencia del sistema de riego por goteo presurizado, que aplica pequeñas cantidades en forma controlada a la zona radicular, el método Kondenskompressor, o riego solar, emula el ciclo de evaporación del agua formando un ambiente cerrado con botellas de Polietileno Tereftalato (PET) de 6 lt que cubren el área radicular y la humedad resultante de la evaporación se condensa en las paredes interiores de botellas PET de 500 cc que regresan al suelo. Objetivo. Realizar una evaluación financiera de la productividad de 3 híbridos de pimiento denominados Nathalie, Martha R y Zapata, mediante la comparación de los sistemas de goteo presurizado y Kondenskompressor. Materiales y métodos. Se utilizaron tratamientos en parcelas divididas con arreglo factorial de A x B con 6 tratamientos y 4 repeticiones, en el cantón El Triunfo, Guayas, Ecuador. Se usaron diferentes tratamientos para evaluar la eficiencia del riego por goteo solar y riego presurizado, con base en las variables, números de frutos por planta, dimensión del fruto, productividad, peso del fruto, costos totales, costos por trasplante y relación beneficio-costo. Resultados. Los mejores resultados financieros fueron para el tratamiento 6, con la aplicación del híbrido Zapata y riego presurizado, con una producción de 26 200 kg.ha-1, un beneficio neto de $5012, y una relación beneficio costo de 0,98, el consumo de agua para la producción fue de1,29 m3.ha-1. Conclusiones. Aunque el sistema de riego presurizado optimiza el consumo de agua, su inconveniente fue la importante inversión monetaria. Por ello el riego solar o Kondenskompressor es más aplicable para pequeños y medianos agricultores con bajos bajos recursos monetarios, ya que implica menos costos y generación de beneficios por montos aproximados al 25% superiores a sus costos totales.
