ABSTRACTNegative pressure pulmonary edema is a serious condition that can accompany acute bilateral vocal cord paralysis. Pathophysiologic and clinical knowledge is required for correct diagnosis and adequate treatment. We present the case of a female patient with negative pressure pulmonary edema associated with thyroid surgery, whose recovery was successful. Keywords: thyroidectomy, vocal cords, postoperative period, pulmonary edema, negative pressure.
