Hintergrund: In Deutschland wird die Anzahl von Patienten mit Indikation für eine ambulante neuropsychologische Therapie auf jährlich ca. 40.000 – 60.000 geschätzt. Dem stehen bundesweit lediglich ca. 200 ambulant tätige Psychologische Psychotherapeuten (PPT) mit neuropsychologischer Qualifikation gegenüber. Ziele und Fragestellungen: Welche Patienten mit welchen Merkmalen und Störungsbildern werden von neuropsychologischen PPT mit welchen Charakteristika wie, in welchen Settings, wie lange und mit welchem Erfolg behandelt? Methodik und Design: Totalerhebung aller ambulanten neuropsychologischen Therapeuten in Deutschland (GNP-Register) mittels Fragebogen zu fünf Themenbereichen: 1) Therapeutencharakteristika, 2) Praxismerkmale, 3) Patientencharakteristika, 4) strukturelle Bedingungen, 5) Überweisungsprozesse. Stichprobe: Auswertungsstichprobe N=118 (Ausschöpfungsquote: 65 %). Ergebnisse: Die Versorgungsdichte bezogen auf die Bevölkerungszahl beträgt ca. 1:360.000 (West-Ost-Vergleich 3:1). Neuropsychologische Therapeuten besitzen i.d.R die Approbation als PPT und behandeln zu 70 % neuropsychologisch erkrankte Patienten mit einer Kombination aus neuropsychologischen Interventionsmethoden und sonstigen Richtlinienverfahren. Die häufigsten Ursachen neuropsychologischer Störungsbilder sind Schädel-Hirn-Traumata und cerebrovaskuläre Erkrankungen, die dominierenden Funktionsstörungen liegen im Bereich Aufmerksamkeit, Konzentration und Affektivität. Die überwiegende Mehrheit der Patienten mit einer neuropsychologischen Störung weist eine psychische Komorbidität auf. In der Selbstbeurteilung der Therapeuten werden die Therapieziele zu etwa zwei Dritteln erreicht. Conclusio: Um die Versorgungslage zu verbessern, muss die ambulante neuropsychologische Psychotherapie sozialrechtlich besser geregelt sowie die Ausbildungskapazität deutlich erhöht werden.
