Introdução: O envelhecimento populacional tem representado um fenômeno de ampliada discussão nas diversas áreas do conhecimento. Ele é identificado por uma transição demográfica significativa aliada aos fatores preponderantes como as mudanças biológicas, físicas e sociais que caracterizam a terceira idade. Nesse sentido, a participação dos idosos em acidentes e traumatismos, incluindo o de face, vem aumentando de forma significativa nos últimos anos, entre as causas estão o envelhecimento da população e a inclusão marcante deles na parcela economicamente ativa. Objetivo: o presente estudo realizou uma revisão narrativa da literatura a respeito dos aspectos epidemiológicos dos principais traumas faciais e das estruturas do complexo maxilofacial associados à população geriátrica. Material e métodos: Foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico na base de dados Pubmed com os seguintes descritores: “Maxillofacial trauma”, “the elderly”, “aging” e “epidemiology”. O delineamento temporal foi de 2015 a 2021, incluindo artigos no formato completo que fizeram análise de traumas em indivíduos idosos. Resultados: os resultados dessa análise mostram uma prevalência dos traumas faciais em idosos no sexo feminino. A contusão na face foi o principal diagnóstico de traumatismo na face, seguida de fratura dos ossos próprios do nariz, a queda também foi o fator etiológico mais prevalente nos estudos avaliados. O tratamento conservador foi o mais adotado. Conclusão: Devido à tendência de crescimento da população idosa nas próximas décadas, bem como o perfil ativo que os idosos estão assumindo, a exposição a fatores de risco para traumas faciais tende a crescer cada vez mais, exigindo-se assim maior atenção e conhecimento.
